I’ve made about 150k from selling pearls found inside humming eggs in caves on my second planet (the one where you have to build a base). I had found a few on my first planet too. I think a stack of 5 is worth 89k in my starting system. See if you can spot any?

Not that I have bought anything with the money yet. I’m not sure how to go about upgrading to get more inventory space. Save for a ship? But something else?

The job agent opens up once you do a few more main quests.

I’m really enjoying the game - 8 hours in. The inventory is the only really gripe. While some worlds are a bit of a snooze, on average I’m finding exploration quite fun. Can see this absorbing quite a few hours over the coming month!

I breezed past that payment for 5 microprocessors on the spot, without doing any missions! :)

Just sell stuff you collect, keep an eye on values in the popups. Stacks of mined materials can be valuable - mine some copper and process in the refinery to chromatic then sell that. Gold from asteroids. Subterranean relics. Stuff from opening chests. Dig up crashed freighter cargo. It all adds up, there’re opportunities for credits everywhere!

Talk to the aliens, often ones that want to barter for basic resources reward you a stack of credits (eg. 100 sodium and they give you 50k for it).

A few remarks and observations:

To clear up something I commented on earlier, it appears that you can get the ‘blueprint’ to build storage units at your base(s) by completing the “Base Computer Archives” mission; or the first step anyway. However, that quest is often bugged. If you already have gotten your free freighter and it is in the same system as your base it seems that the quest will mistakenly put the quest marker on your freighter and not your base.

To fix this do the following: Move the freighter to a different location by ‘summoning’ it. You want to keep it right by the space station anyway so now is the time to move it. Do this by accessing the X menu (for PC, not sure on other systems but the menu for repairing shields, for being hailed on coms, for summoning your starship to you…) and use the option to summon/move your freighter. The freighter should move and the quest marker will stay put. Now go to your base and force a save and restart the game. After restarting the quest marker should correct itslef to the base computer and you can continue the quest. And, as I said, my first reward was the blueprint for storage containers; ymmv.

Early game moneymakers for me:

Easiest: Humming Eggs / Albumen Pearls. Found in caves, use your visor, watch for toxic plants. I keep moving Pearls to fill up my freighter and sell them all en masse later.

Richest: Crashed Freighters, by far. You do need to have a bit of luck but it seems like I’m finding more freighter crash sites just by flying over them these days and you can set your portable ‘scanner beacon’ to look for distress signals which can bring you to them in addition to being shown one by an NPC as a point of interest. If I get a freighter where containers need mordite plus coprite to open the vaults I just move on but otherwise it’s worth it to quickly forage and refine what you need and dig them all up. I made over 4 million units scavenging two freighters back to back. Several boxes held items worth between 100K and 400K and a couple held items worth 1M each.

Yes, this was my primary money maker when I started. Use the Visor, look for Yellow, especially with III. They are called humming eggs, they sell for 10k each, you can have 5 per stack, its possible to collect 50 in large caves.

I’m stuck. I bought a ship with a hyperdrive, have crafted anti-matter fuel, and the mission tells me to leave my system and seek my future. But where do I go? When I look on the galactic map, all of the systems I can reach are blocked by an “anomalous signal”. So what do I do now? I’m confused at my next step.

Edit - never mind, I just had to find the right system. They should have made it more obvious than me having to check out a bunch of systems on the map to find the one I can travel to.

The best way to make money very early on right now appears to be to raid planetary supply depots. Just strafe those clusters of 5 cylinders to get loot valued between 200,000 and 500,000. No longer just a piddling amount of worthless platinum you have no use for.

Of course it’s helpful to find a world with a lot of random installations. Some have almost none, so there’s no point just idly cruising around on those worlds.

I had a yellow line on the map clearly showing me where to go.

I pressed the share button. They asked for a planet without atmosphere, so it was one of the lifeless ones.

I’m don’t know what a “strange” planet is supposed to be.

Ok, if the share button works then I’ll keep trying. It might mean some sort of exotic planet.

Wow. Not only can you build high enough to free fall for a long time, but you can actually see the tower from space.

So incredibly cool compared to the random blobs planets used to look like. Now they actually closely reflect what is on them and it makes a huge difference imo.

Damn, I was wondering what those things were! I’ve found a couple of them but had no idea what to do. I’ll keep an out eye now!

Strange does not appear in the known lists of biomes. No Man’s Sky Wiki - Biome

But typically there have been several synonyms for the various biomes: Lush, Barren, Dead, Exotic, Scorched, Frozen, Toxic, Irradiated. E.g. a Lush planet might be described as ‘Bountiful’ or ‘Flourishing’ or ‘Paradise’, etc. Maybe they just added “Strange” to a biome with the NEXT update? Seems like it would be most likely to be an Exotic biome so good luck with that; they are few and far between.

Yes, this is a really key improvement, because it means you can see stuff from orbit and then explore it.

You used to see cool looking stuff, and then as you got lower it would just disappear.

The fact that the new clouds actually cast shadows along with the tweaked lighting and vastly improved scale really helps all the terrain just look more “right” than it ever did.

I’m really glad that they’ve said they have plenty of ideas they still want to do, because as a new Baseline to work from this update is a huge improvement across the board.

My wish list would be a more streamlined interface and eventually some additional tweaks to AI behaviors (above what they’ve done this update), and since oceans with real depth are a thing maybe some water focused suit upgrades and a submersible.

I presume it is one with the word “strange” associated with it when you scan it. Because I was asked to get a photo on a scorching one, and that’s a standard type.

Yeah, now it actually changed, and says desert, so i have no idea what it was doing before. I’ll try to find a dessert planet now.

Ok ok okay! Bought it after getting turned off at launch and avoiding it until now. I love space exploration, so started scanning through the thread, and saw a short but good review by @Torbe on Steam. I’ll get started and see how it goes and whether I have any questions.

Welcome aboard. There are many enthusiastic interlopers here ready to assist! :)

This thing’s really got its hooks in me now. I’m probably over 12 hours in* and I just warped from my starting system not that long ago and learned how to make antimatter.

*And I only really started playing Thursday night.
