This is amazing! I always assumed that the transition from space to on planet was some sort of scene change and clever engine tricks. But this proves the whole thing is actually simulated.
Quick question: I discovered a location on my planet which had a structure containing an exosuit upgrade. I named and uploaded it. Awesome, apart from the fact I had to go refine cobalt. So I went back to my base and now I don’t see any waypoint to that named location. How do I find it back? Any map or other navigational help I can use?
There are 2 ways that I know of to mark locations to find your way back to them. One is temporary and one is permanent.
Use your Analysis Visor and focus to create a temporary waypoint on structures that will go away when you leave the surface of the planet. For a more permanent marker you can build a beacon on the site. If you haven’t done either of those you may have a hard time finding the place again. I lost a good multi-tool upgrade once that way. Just couldn’t find it again. Now I use beacons to mark stuff I want to return to (crashed ships, buildings with upgrades in them I can’t afford, etc.).
I create bases as i find that the easiest to find on the HUD.
That is really good advice-- I hope beacons aren’t too expensive to build.
Oh, and question for anyone: there is no subtitles option for the computer voice, is there? One time it said something longer that I couldn’t make out.
Did the Atlas path change? When will I get the recipe for an Atlas Pass v1? You used to get them from a certain little fella but I just met him and he only offered my suit/ship/tool upgrades. I’d really like to get in thos locked doors and boxes.
I assume that was previously the case, as the planet appearance from space never used to match the actual terrain on the planet. But somehow they managed to fix that and now it’s all pretty damn accurate. I have no idea how they pulled that off, but I sure do love it.
Same fella, just a little further down the track.

Been playing this a ton, mostly with friends. We are working on our separate home bases that are within eyesight of each other. We see each other take off and land, and run around and collect materials. We can take the same quests from the same station and work on them together. We can fight pirates together. We can see which new systems people are in and warp to them. If we are offline we can look at the galactic map for nearby “contacts” and see where others have been.
There is occasionally some desync where we may not see their name tag or may not see their player model. A quick rejoin always fixes it. The worst desync was Friday night prime time, so I think related to load. We just finished a 3 hour session (Sun morning US - not prime time!) with no issues.
Overall the multiplayer works well and has been fun.

Do all planets have some kind of messed up weather condition? You know, something that damages you? I have been to a lot of planets and they all do so far. I do not know if its bad luck or just how the game is.
Will sentinels attack / kill your base? I found some plants that some kind of orb which sells for a lot, but the minute I took one, the sentinels showed up and wasted me. Speaking of which, is the only thing to do with them is to hide? The idea is to build a hit nearby and hide inside, unless the plants do not respawn.
Any advice on base locations? There is a ridge in an area that is aesthetically pleasing, but the ground is fairly uneven, and I have no idea if this will cause problems with some weird building placement restrictions.
I can’t answer your first question as I’ve only seen 2 planets, both dangerous.
But sentinels have various levels of aggressiveness. It is mentioned in the planet description. The ones on my planet aren’t too restless and will come scan you if they spot you mining, but even then, they won’t attack immediately. They also fly by my base all the time, not caring.
For the base, the building system is very flexible. One way to flatten the ground is to place wooden floors then delete them. Voilà. Flat ground. You can also unlock additional base elements like pillars and arches which would make a hillside base look great.
No, some of them are basically paradise, like the one below. The guy that found it said it is not hostile and has no storms. The temp is a balmy 65 degrees F and no life support is needed. I think he named it “New Earth”
I have a Paradise Planet where it’s basically 75 degrees F all the time and the Sentinels are really chill. If they see you harvesting stuff they come over and get the exclamation mark, but provided you stop as soon as they get to you they get bored and fly away.
Conditions are so nice there I wish I could take the suit off.
Things like those orbs you mention and anything that comes from a sentient plant is probably going to bring angry sentinels.
You can park your ship nearby and just harvest them and then jump in and fly off, but if you’re in a system where the Sentinels are particularly short on humour you will get chased into space too, by ships that will kill your drive so you can’t just run away.

How do you name a planet? I guess Ill keep looking to find my main base planet then. I also do not like the sentinel mechanic. Its just annoying and adds nothing to the game along with the other needlessly grind aspects of the game.

When you go to upload your discoveries from the discoveries page, instead of just uploading them all, you can choose to rename them and upload them. The same goes for any of the animals or plants you discovered.
I think some of those weather events are scripted to start right around when you can build your first little cabin. I was on the second planet in my starting system (it was bountiful), and that’s how it went down.
I had a planet in that system that was categorized as “life incompatible” or something, and it was pretty freaking barren, but did have some life. It was also supposed to have pure ferrite but I never found any.

Upload them? I have not done that. Ill have to look.
Also, my suit icon is red. I guess that means something is not right. I can’t see anything in my inventory that looks broken.

Uploading is key, because while you earn units for scanning stuff, you earn NANITES for uploading them.
Also, uploading is what lets other people see that you discovered stuff.

Thanks. I see that now. However, its saying that I have lost connection to directory services. I can just upload them later.
Is it the icon in the bottom right that fills up as your inventory fills? You might just be at max for what you can carry. I can’t remember if that makes it turn red though.
