I have been looking for a visor upgrade forever. I only saw one once (tech merchant, right?). I could not afford it at the time. How does this adjacency bonus work?
I just strafe the eggs in my ship. It’ll take a few passes because I don’t think you can get your ship to hover, and eventually you’ll get a pop up saying the “swarm has subsided” or something like that. At which point you can just land and wander around picking up the loot.

The eggs despawn a few seconds after being released. You have had success with this?
Yeah. I found a base with four patches of eggs outside and strafed them up. My intention was to land on one side, draw the swarm and then jump over to the far side to scoop up, but I got the swarm message on approach and then just wandered about picking up the goodies.
Started a new game with the NEXT update … on permadeath (the only mode I play since they introduced it) … wow, what a surprise, where is my starting base ? Died 60 sec. later …
I find the start of the game quite dramatic!
On my second run I was on a frost planet, and I found a slope where I squeezed into and where the temperature rised to acceptable levels … This run I made it to my ship, learned stuff about refining materials and crafting devices … I scanned for an abandoned base or something, maybe 600 units away from my ship … I thought I was prepared for the walk, when an ice strom caught me by surprise and I could not replenish my exo suit fast enough. Frozen to death.
On my next run a warm, radioactive planet … running for my life to find a hole where I can survive, found some cavern, great starting point. It got dark and I got lost in the cavern almost died from some toxic spunges hanging from the walls … when it got day outside, I found the entrance where I came in. I always get lost in those caverns, I don’t know why, but this happened in the older versions of the game to … I like it.
So far I like the NEXT update very much and the new stuff I discovered. I liked the game before any updates, so there you go.
I remembered in the old days, there where animated images of your scanned animals. Now we have only static images? Or am I misremembering it??
An upgrade next to an item gives a bonus, as does an upgrade next to an upgrade. The adjacency bonus kicks it when it is 3 more more touching. For example, the mining laser, advanced mining laser (which is an upgrade to the mining laser) and an s-class mining upgrade, when all placed in a row in the multitool inventory, will light up with a green outline around each component, and give more than the listed bonus. It works this way for upgrades on the multi tool, ships, suit, etc.

The analysis visor fooled me for a while, it did not appear to give the bonus, but then we realized its adjacency bonus color was a thick white outline … which is pretty damn close to the normal thin white outline.
Try it with two cheap mining laser upgrades first. Destroy and re-make tools to make room.
This is a quite interesting topic to read.
I not heard of No Man’s Sky until it was released. I do not know how I seemed to miss all the hype or what rock I was living under at the time but I had no idea what the game was. All I knew was that it was released and seemed to be a great disappointment.
That was the extent of my research. AAA game released with hype, falls flat, turn the page.
Now I find myself watching numerous videos and considering buying the game. It seems like a lot of fun. I notice a lot of people here describing multiplayer aspects but the Steam page says single player. Is it both or is it one of those pseudo-multiplayer bastardizations like Elite? Is it a fun single player experience? Beyond fly around, mine stuff and build bases what is the point of it? Even after watching videos I am not clear what the game actually is.
Thank you for humoring a total gorm.
Don’t die in permadeath mode, that’s the point for me, then try to reach the center of the universe (as a far away goal)
The NEXT update that came out last week added multiplayer to the game along with a metric ton of other nice stuff. Make sure you get the Steam version if you want multiplayer. The GOG version won’t have that for a while.

Multiplayer in this game is barely a thing.
Multiplayer summary is drop in, drop out 4-person coop.
If you start a save with someone your starting worlds will always be the same. If not, then you can visit them or they can visit you anytime. Up to 4 players at a time in a group. Your progress, inventory, ships etc all stay with you, so you can enter anyone’s world and everything comes with you. And everything you do in their world will come back to your game when you leave.
The multiplayer works well. Source: I have 40 hours in NEXT and 35 of that has been multiplayer.

How so? It’s fully functional, I played it in MP all weekend.
Does anyone know if the benefits from “Upgrades” you can purchase from the Blueprint vendors for Exosuit, Star Ship, and Multipurpose Tool still stack if you use more than one of the same type? I know that I can install more than one of the same type and if I put them both next to the component they benefit the borders will all light up like before. But you don’t get any confirmation from the main blueprint as to what the stats are now (e.g. Damage or Jump Boost); not the bonus from touching and not the overall bonus to the stats.
I am liking the change to this on the whole; the separation of Blueprints for the main components and the Upgrades available (C, B, A and S) to the various components. I seem to have more than enough Nanites to constantly be upgrading my upgrades. But because space is still tight and because I can’t tell if in fact there is any added benefit to two or more Upgrades I’m deleting the poorer upgrade and replacing with a better one.
(In particular I like how a C class Upgrade improves just one facet of a Blueprint and as you move up to S a single Upgrade improves more than one thing.)
I had someone pop into my game randomly. I don’t have a mic set up so the kid helpfully showed me around (even though i already figured out the basics), then we flew up to his freighter (he showed me his “cool room”), until i could tell he was getting bored, then waved goodbye and logged off.

I guess it’s less than I would have liked, in that it’s just a locally hosted 4 player game. It’s also buggy, although this isn’t limited to that particular aspect of the game any more than the rest, I suppose.
I was really hoping for more of an open thing, that didn’t involve explicitly joining another person’s game.
The talk about “It’ll be so rare that you encounter another person, that it’ll be a special experience!” was kind of bull, since it’s just “Person X joins your game, they are immediately placed into the system where you are.”
There’s no real surprise or anything involved with it. It doesn’t feel very organic.
Yes, having multiple upgrades of the same type will stack. For example : I have a 24-slot multi-tool (rifle) and for the Mining Beam I have upgrades of B, A and S level and they all light up and provide their respective boosts when installed adjacent to one another. I went from needing a good 8 seconds or so (and often a pause to cool down) to mine a large rock or tree to basically having it zapped in 3 seconds or less with hardly any heat buildup and much lower power consumption. With limited slots on many multi-tools it’s probably better to go straight for the A or S upgrades for max benefit, but if you have a rifle with a lot of slots, stacking is very nice. The challenge becomes deciding how you want to build out your multi-tool, because there is never room for everything. I focused heavily on Mining, Boltcaster, Scanner and Visor (plus the Terrain Manipulator), and never have installed the optional weapons systems, grenade launcher or any of their corresponding upgrades.

It’s actually that you are only limited to 3 upgrades, not different classes, so you can stack 3 S tier upgrades.
I’m running 3 S tier scanner upgrades, and pull in hundreds of thousands of units per scan of creatures.
In terms of placement, you generally want upgrades to be next to each other, as they (used to at least) give a bonus if you do that.
So the best plan is to place initial systems in the corners , as far away as possible from each other. The fact that you can’t have more than 3 upgrades per system actually makes it easier to play the layout of the tool.
It was awesome to finally see another real live person in game! I had a lot of fun just exploring with you and helping out however I could. Sorry I had to leave suddenly, my mom showed up at our house with her laptop for me to “fix” (I’m an IT guy, so I get all the family tech support requests). My teenage son actually quipped “Did you tell your friend you had to logout 'cause your MOM was calling you?!” LOL. =)
I’m always up for hosting or joining another QT3 member(s) in game. SlainteMhath in game and on Steam as well. As @Papageno said, it looks like some resources (such as the eggs) are available for all players in the MP instance to loot, so there is still plenty to see and do even if players are at far different levels of progression within the game. I’m curious if stuff like Copper/Emeril/Cobalt is the same, or Vortex Cubes and other cool trinkets. Could be worthwhile stocking up my freighter with resources while playing MP.
I thought that if you have multiplayer enabled but have not joined a coop session there’s a chance you will randomly run into people? Like Enidigm below?
Last night I raided a manufacturing facility and was rewarded with the blueprint for a Cryogenic Chamber. The component parts are Living Glass and a Cryo-Pump.
The system I am currently in is a top-level economy and I can purchase Cryo-Pumps at component vendors and the trade terminal for 2mil units. The system I came from (where my Freighter still sits) is a mid-level economy, and sells Living Glass at the vendors for just under 700K.
This means that for 2.7 mil units I can construct a Cryogenic Chamber that sells for 4.8 mil units. The slightly higher/lower than base percentages in the systems during purchase/sale mean my profit is more like 1.7 mil per item…but still…1,700,000 units per item in profit for a little space trucking. Yes please.
Stuff like this is everywhere in the game. The Economy Scanner is a must-have upgrade that will allow you to find the best trade routes, component sources and sale points for your manufactured goods. You can make millions of units (and thus upgrade your own starship, your freighter and purchase plenty of frigates for your fleet) with a little effort and pre-planning. Sell large stacks at once though, as the price the market pays for stuff does fall after you’ve sold the first batch. It will reset eventually, but I’m not sure how long that takes.
