If you find a ship and repair it, what happens to your original ship? Does it sit on the planet forever or can you remote control it to park on your freighter?

I found one of those facilities with locked doors, located on a hillside, and tried to use my ship lasers to shoot the doors, but unfortunately I flew too far away to avoid the sentinels and lost the place, d’oh! :-/

Oh, I also went for a slot in the “cargo” category of my backpack inventory but it was only one slot(?) Can I still buy the “regular” extra slot from the same vendor in the same station or is that possibility gone?

It’s not really random in that you just encounter them.
It’s just that if someone chooses to “join a random game”, instead of play their own, they have a chance of being put into yours.

But at that point, you see “So and so is joining your game” and then they show up in your system.

You can remotely call any of your ships to your location (although it uses some of their launch fuel when you do). Once you call one, you can just jump into it and it becomes your “primary” ship until you get in the other one.

Your non primary ships seem to disappear upon loading saved games. You can still summon them, but they are no longer sitting where they used to be, I don’t believe. This is somewhat inconsistent though.

I found a crashed ship, claimed it, didn’t repair it, and it magically appeared in my freighter once I acquired that.

Yup, same here. Quite useful.

I did not know about the loot aspect of this, just remember being surprised by these things. Now I’ll have to watch out for them. Luckily they mostly appear to be the same facilities that I am already raiding so 2 for 1!

So you can’t have two ships? When I was buying a ship I had the option to either buy the ship outright or trade in for a discount. If you can’t have two ships, what is the point of buying a ship without trading in?

You can. You can only fly one at a time, though.

Ok, so I somehow have two ships. Either a fixer upper or I bought a 2nd one outright. So then I have to fly to my freigheter, then summon my other ship to park it there otherwise its lost?

The motivation for this is to sell the extra ship at some point. However, it occurs to me, I have not see a way to sell ships outright. So its not like I can get a crashed ship flying, then sell it, and re-summon my original ship.

Find a crashed ship. “Buy” it for zero credits. Go back to your previous ship to make it your primary again. Fly back to your freighter. The crashed ship will be there (if it isn’t, just save and reload). Then fix it there and you’ll have both ships.

BTW, I suppose that the station teleporters can send you back to your home base, but how do you get back? Is a temporary teleporter created there?

Also, is the game saving portable tech a one time thing? Because either that’s the case or I left it somewhere…

No (that I know of), but you can build a teleporter. You don’t have the blueprint initially, but it’s easy to obtain from the blueprint analyzer or whatsitsname.

Oh, when you end up at your base, is your ship teleported along with you, then?

Let me make sure I understand…
So I am flying around and I find a crashed ship on a planet ( I guess I can use the signal analyzer to find one).
I land next to said crashed ship.
I then ‘used it’ to buy it for 0 credits. (do I get inside of it?)
I then jump in my normal ship again and fly back to my freighter and it will magically be in the landing dock waiting for me to fix it?

By “used it”, it’s because when you try to board it, it gives you the option to “Buy” (for 0 credits), exchange with your own, or decline.

And yes on the rest… I think. I’m not entirely sure because I “bought” one such ship in a planet, left it behind, and then got my freighter. And when I loaded the game in my freighter, the ship was there. Not sure if it will still work like that after acquiring the freighter, but I’d say it’s worth trying.

That would be nice if it worked that way. In a way, you can find some super awesome, but very busted ship to fly. Then it sits on your freighter as a fixer-upper and slowly you repair it until the day it becomes your main ship.

That’s my plan after I’ve done a bit more of the story missions to unlock stuff.

Does the ship have any value before it gets repaired? In other words, after I buy a crippled ship and it ends up on my freighter, can I then get to my freighter (by means of my primary ship), make the cripple my primary, and wait for other ships to dock at my freighter and off-set the price to buy a working ship with the value of the crippled one? I’m thinking a crippled hauler would be the one to try it with; seems that haulers with more slots are comparatively overpriced. But need to find out if being crippled drastically reduces the value.

Bugs I hit this weekend:

  • Base mission computer gets (inaccessibly) relocated to your freighter instead of your established base, so you can’t upgrade blueprints. Bummer.

  • Unfixable busted frigates (“0 parts required”). That’s a bummer, too.

  • I hate going after tagged buried stuff only to have the tag (and the stuff) suddenly disappear.

  • Sentinels that are impossible to de-star other than either landing on a station or by quitting and reloading a save point.

But still spent all weekend on it
