My but this is the grindiest grind that ever got ground. Still, the fun does manage to squeeze in there sometimes when you’re not busy collecting oxygen, sodium, ferrite or carbon. I’m really glad i never got this before, because if this is what it’s like after the awesome patching, i can hardly imagine what it was like earlier.
Still, it has its moments. Do you ever get storage containers? Or larger inventory?
Inventory can be expanded with extra slots. Yoz can buy one slot at every space station. Note your suit has three categories general, tech and storage. (From memory am on the road) Storage slots can hold stacks of 500 instead of 250 the general slots can. You can also build extra storage in bases and your freighter.
Here’s a tip I saw for the beacon-challenged:
If you cannot craft a beacon, take a screenshot while scanning the location (hold F). The Scanner interface contains the planet name (top left) as well as latitude and longitude (top right), which you can use to find a location again.

I think the answer to this next question is NO, but just in case…
Is there a way to mark a location on a planet?
Basically I found an industrial facility with a locked door. Someone suggested shooting it with your ship. I do this, and sentinels come and then I fly away until they lose aggro.
I think I come back to the base area, and I can no longer find it. I either got lost, or the random generator mechanic re-rolled the area when I got to far away.
I have had a few instances of where I think I come back to some area and its gone.
You don’t really need to fly away for them to lose aggro, as they seem blind when you’re airborne. Just circle around the building til the timer runs down.
It’s not random, it’s procedural - the area won’t re-roll to something else. Remember, the whole galaxy is the same for everybody. :)
You can tag a location though by pointing at an icon and holding X (on controller), and as long as you don’t fly too close to the tag or tag something else, you should be able to find it again. If there’s no icon for the building you may need to land and use the visor to place a custom tag.

So basically, I am getting lost then? So I can just shoot the hell out of a door and ignore sentinels while I am in my ship? I thought they would attack my ship.
After reading some stuff on my wiki, I should just pick a place to make a base. It seems that its very unlikely to find a nice weather world that does not need life support until I get to high tier stars. Maybe I should go back to my original base the one I built for the tutorial, although it does not have a teleporter.
Did you start the quest from a brand new base in NEXT or did you restore a pre-NEXT base? I did the latter, and I think that’s what is bugging the quest. I did try killing the first two drones, then the two that came with the dog sentinel, then hopped in my ship and flew in circles for a bit until they stopped looking and the wanted level went away, but when I landed again and it started over with 2 drones the kill count had reset to 0/8. So in my case at least, it looks like I have to rack up 8 in one place, which means killing the dog sentinel and the walker.
Tonight I am going to reload the save and attempt to do the whole string of 8…but if the walker won’t go down again I may try landing…running a little ways away on foot, and perhaps drawing in another random drone, which would make 8 if I kill it. If I can just get the quest to advance I believe the aggressive sentinel situation could resolve itself and I could move on. Otherwise it’s back to the manual save from a full day previous…and a lot of lost effort.
You don’t get the blueprint analyzer when you convert an old save game to NEXT. It’s a known bug that they’re supposed to fix in the next patch. There are so many issues with old saves currently that I decided to start a new game from scratch and then go back and play my old one once they sort out the conversion issues for pre-next saves.
Nope, the drones and dog sentinels will not attack your ship. What I do is circle around and strafe the doors a few times (be sure to cycle through your weapons using the G key for best effect), then just circle around in the air for 30 seconds while the Searching timer runs down. After the wanted level goes away, land in the green circle landing area, stroll in the now open doorway, and solve the puzzle to receive the reward from the facility.
As for worlds to build bases on…it’s random. In my game I settled on a planet with low radiation for my first base because I hadn’t been able to find anything with no adverse effects. Literally the next system I warped to had a Lush planet with no adverse effects. Use your map to scout systems near you, and look for ones with 4-5 planets. Chances to find a non-hostile planet are better in those larger systems.
Couldn’t finish my first base before a fire storm hit the planet I was on…
But I’m well pleased with the finished product! Now I’m off to find some pure ferrite to create the blueprint analyzer.

if you are frequently hit by fire storms, you might want to rethink your building materials ;)
It must be space wood or something, the temps drop when I go inside.

My base is mostly wooden but there is a modern room hanging off one side, and past that a hallway that goes nowhere… yet. I have a few refiners and analyzers strewn about the (red grass) yard. A small wooden platform with uneven edges supports a portal that looks lazily towards the distance. Around the corner is a cluster of storage cubes partially filled with meaningless resources. My older explorer ship is parked to one side, and in the back is my new ship, still broken but I plan to repair it one day.
That’s right, I am a space hillbilly.
Awesome, another pre-NEXT save bug. Honestly though, that one is not as big of a deal for me, as I wanted to restore my base mostly just to retrieve all the resources I had in the 8 storage containers I’d built there. Chances are (if I can get the aggressive sentinel issue hammered out) I will simply move what I need to my freighter and abandon my base until they fix them for pre-NEXT saves, after which it’s likely I’ll tear the whole thing down and build an all new one from scratch someplace else where it will look cooler and can expand further.
LOL! You need to tame a couple of doglike critters and put them under your porch!

So at some point, I got a “Star Seed” last night after doing the atlas path. I think it wanted me to go through a blackhole or something too, but I went through the wrong one? Whatever.
Anyway, there doesn’t seem to be an consensus on what exactly the Star Seed does. You build it into your exosuit like equipment.
However, I think I may have figured it out? Normally, when you go through black holes, it damages one piece of equipment. Since having the star seed built in, it seems like they don’t damage my ship? Which is quite useful.
I keep seeing this and meaning to ask, what does this icon mean?
Ah! Okay, that makes sense. Thanks!
Whatever about this game…but wood huts…that just makes me laugh my ass off. How much lazier and inappropriate given the theme of the game can you get?
