I agree with those findings. Pre-NEXT, I made a bit of money space trucking the trade goods (like 6-Pronged Mesh Decouplers) when they showed up with green BUY prices like “-56%” of average, then hanging onto them until I got to a system where they SOLD for green “+38%” of average. If you only dealt in the most valuable tier of trade goods for each system, you could set up a route that earned you decent money.
Post-NEXT, I haven’t seen a system yet with trade goods that you can buy for significantly less than the galactic average. I also haven’t seen anywhere paying more than the galactic average either. So space trucking the old way seems dead. On the flip side, you can now craft trade goods out of resources and other goods, and they sell for a significant increase over the cost/price of their component parts. So I guess the new space commerce is all about finding systems that have supplies of the component parts you need to build something that sells for 500% markup in another system. In other words…additional grind in yet another aspect of the game.

Well, I think I hit the wall again, and have gotten bored with this game again.
There were a few new things, and it was cool, but ultimately it still runs into the same issue of just not really having anything interesting to do after a while.
I can fly around and find new planets, but they pretty much just look like the planets I’ve already seen. I can do quests, but I don’t really know why I’d want to, they’re all pretty generic.
Space combat is more fun than it was originally, but it’s fairly simplistic.
So, I feel like it’s going back on the shelf for a while.
I’ve noticed this too. it now appears to be impossible to hover, which I used to do quite often pre-NEXT. This makes shooting the doors off installations more difficult (the doors also got beefed up hitpoints it seems) as well as trying to scout areas from the air, as you’re constantly moving at a fairly good clip even when “braking” all the way down.
Mine was still broken last night as well. It says I have 1 more item to fix, yet I fixed all 4 of the broken terminals inside the frigate and walked all over the inside and outside and no other terminals appear broken. Has anyone ever had to repair any terminal other than the ones in the main room on the frigates?
Yes. You can build a “base” on your freighter which can hold the hydroponic bay things to grow plants. Alas, it’s all inside, so you can’t build bio domes and make your freighter look like a space greenhouse from the outside.
They used to, usually if I logged out and came back after 24 hours or so they’d be restocked. However, I have noticed since NEXT that the space station and the outpost I purchased components from a few days ago have not seemed to restock those components since I bought them out. This could make space commerce difficult for those players who enjoy buying low and selling high between star systems.
Go to a planet where you have a base. Summon your freighter there from the ground. Save the game (in the ground near your base!). Reload. The icon should now point to the base computer of your ground base.
I noticed that my minimum breaking speed is 19u. Here is what the old NMS Wiki says about speed:
Speed
Keep in mind that all values shown here are approximate and measured without any use of upgrades. While in planetary atmosphere, the average speed is 35u. The ship can be accelerated to reach up to 50u and can be braked to slow it down to 13u. The Boost can be engaged in planetary atmosphere to reach up to 150u and in space to reach 1,800u. If outside of the proximity of Space stations and the atmosphere of planets, the Pulse Jump can be engaged by holding R1 and L2 on PS4 or left shift on PC, allowing to reach 9,999u.
So, it looks like they’ve increased the minimum speed by 6u. I’m hoping that the Pulse Drive upgrades will now reduce the minimum speed in addition to increasing the max speed. I sure hope so. It’s very hard to scout stuff from the air now because you’re going so fast.
I think I’ve found the source of my crashes - computer crashes to desktop, that is. My Windows page file was set to a severely low 500mb. I think this was because at one point a while back I moved the page file onto my faster SSD and then it seems to have gotten itself mixed up.
Question. The warning symbol that pops up in flight. I assume it’s just a collision warning? Doesn’t seem to correlate too well with an immenent crash.

I just started and am trying to get Feritte dust from the rocks. But when I fire my laser at rocks I get nothing. What am I doing wrong?
Oh cool, thanks, I’ll try that, just as soon as I can leave this planet without crashing. I can’t seem to mine a patch of cobalt without crashing and it’s all I need to finish a drop pod. Patch 1.53 just hit PS4, maybe it’ll help me.
EDIT: crashed yet again. This planet is cursed.

Maybe you are in terrain manipulator mode?

Not sure. I just keep firing at the rock and nothing happens.
Remember the part above where I got the free Freighter mission, shot down the fighters and then landed on the planet by mistake and the Captain left so I didn’t get my free ship?
Several jumps later another freighter showed up needing help and I killed those fighters and this time I remembered to land on the freighter!
And then the game crashed.
My save game was in the prior system when I got out of my ship on the space station. When I went back to the new system… the freighter wasn’t there.
I’m cursed.
I think if you just hang around near a planet for long enough (like, at most a minute) that mission spawns.
Are you sure the rock you’re shooting at is destructible. Sometimes planets have terrain features that look like rocks and plants, but they aren’t actually destructible for resources. You can’t actually mine the planet surface or the stone that makes up cliffs and such, it has to be a single solitary rock or boulder sitting on top of the landscape, and even then some are not destructible.
If you’re just starting out, you shouldn’t have any other multi-tool mode other than mining laser. However, if you do have Terrain Manipulator active, hitting the “G” key (PC) will cycle your fire mode. Do this until it says Mining Beam in the upper right corner of your HUD.

Thanks. Found the right rocks!

Getting a bit tired of the grindy nature of the game.
My gameplay last night:
-My frigate returned from a mission with damage. There’s no way I can find to assess the damage from your freighter, you have to fly out to the frigate. Then you have to wander around to find the various damaged parts and only THEN can you see exactly what materials you need to perform the repair. If you’re like me (and I know I am) you don’t have those materials on you so you have to run back to your ship to retrieve them. One of the damage points requires 50 platinum to repair so… that frigate is effectively out of service for now.
-I use the signal booster to find a ExoSuit upgrade. It’s on another world so I have to spend time flying there. Only after I land and find the site do I discover that you of course have to repair the thing before you get the upgrade and of course I don’t have any of the required materials.
-I give up, fly to the local station and one of the NPCs directs me to a crashed freighter. I’ve read online that these are supposed to be great sources of cash so I go to check it out. Eventually I unearth one of the cargo pods or whatever only to discover that of COURSE it requires a bunch of materials I don’t have just to open it.
That’s when I closed the game and gave up.

Yeah, a lot of the game ends up coming down to inventory management, stockpiling stuff you need on yourself and your ship so you can actually interact with devices.
I have the benefit of already having an exosuit with maxed capacity… I would imagine this is insanely annoying with more limited capacity.
On the upside, at least for drop pods, the materials needed to open them is always the same.
50 Platinum is about a minute of shooting up asteroids.

Not always though. Some fields are very light on platinum.

Yeah I get tons of gold and silver but very little platinum.
It wouldn’t be quite so bad if I could see from the freighter what materials are needed to repair the damage so i can make sure to bring them with me. As it is it just seems like tedious busywork.
Rule no.1 is always carry lots of the basics
Rule no.2 is buy those when you see them in stores (1000 platinum is a steal compared to grinding)
The basics for your backpack are (even better in cargo slots) :
- Carbon (also Condensed)
- Ferrite Dust (also Pure, Magnetized)
- Sodium (also Nitrate)
- Di-hydrogen
- Ionised Cobalt
- Chromatic Metal
- Oxygen
- Bullets
For your ship:
For the freighter it should have in its inventory:
- Tritium
- Di-hydrogen
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
For your containers:
- All the other mineral/plants you might need eventually
Thankfully, for frigate repairs, it can use items directly in your freighter. It’s a lot to keep track of, but once you have a nice stack of each it’s much less of a hassle.
