Yeah, this is key… when you get gold/silver/platinum, just send it to your freighter from inventory, which you can do from anywhere… then it’s always there when you need to fix up frigates.

You don’t have to grind platinum, you can just grind tritium (much much much much much more plentiful), which transmogrifies into platinum in the transmogrifier at a 5:1 ratio.
My fighter has three S class Pulse Drive upgrades and minimum speed is 26u. I find that plenty slow enough for scouting, though it probably helps that the turn radius is so tight.
Great to know, thanks.
One other thing I noticed (and don’t know if it’s a “rule”) is that the cargo pods near crashed freighters always seem to unlock with the same type/quantity of stuff for a given crash site. For instance, last night it was 25 chromatic metal for each pod.
Speaking of crashed freighters and their loot, I was wondering about something. Does it make a difference whether there’s more advanced player with a less advanced one present in terms of the value of the loot you find? Because when @SlainteMhath was in my game the other day, or shortly after he’d left, I found this crazy expensive part (2 million units) that I think is for a big ship. Octupled my cash when I sold it.

The what now? Where do I get one of those?

Great tip, thanks.
That said, the game needs a few things. You should be able to repair your freighters from the freighter screen. It should show the cost there on materials and you have click a button to repair.
You also should be able to build some sort of automated converter on your ship. Put in rows of different items and then the output is created while you are gone. They really need some QoL things like this to reduce the grind.

Sorry but that is not true. Many do use the same but I came across one last night that was very different.
I wonder if he’s jokingly referring to the refiner or if it’s a separate thing.
Hey, so now I seem to have two main quests-- I got a warp cell from a monolith and suddenly got a quest about seeking out the ANOMALY in space, distinct from the Awakenings one. Last thing I did last night was land my ship in said anomaly.
Can I pursue this one without cutting off the other one?
Nice C&H reference, I LOL’d!
As others above have mentioned, the resource grind gets a lot easier once you have your exosuit slots expanded, including a few Cargo slots (they hold double the resources or items of a standard slot), as well as a ship with more cargo slots and a freighter.
The Exosuit is huge though. You can purchase an extra slot for straight cash (units) at each space station, and that’s a great way to gain them quickly at first. Drop pods will require resources, the toughest of which to obtain can be Antimatter (has to be made from 25 Chromatic Metal and 20 Condensed Carbon). But even there once you get rolling with a decent amount of resources stockpiled, you can go on a Drop Pod binge and quickly add slots.
Once you are able to collect stacks of 250 - 500 of all the common elements it’s much easier to wander around repairing and building stuff while topping off your stacks whenever you wander past a resource. I hardly ever find myself actively searching for a resource now, other than maybe Copper (for Chromatic Metal) or Emeril.
My biggest challenge is inventory management between my suit, my ship, my freighter and my base.
Absolutely. And both have nice rewards as you progress.

You can only purchase once per space station but if you’ve got the cash you can join a random public game, dock with the station, buy the upgrade, jump in and out of your ship to save and then log out.
Repeat until you run out of money or have the number of slots you want.

Where does one get a transmogrifier? Is there some quest line needed for this?
Edit: I think you mean the refiner…
Indeed it is the refiner. BTW we get a more efficient one at some point, right?
Another aside: I love the straight up alchemy involved in this game. Tritium becomes platinum? Far out!

I am guessing that you are supposed to put random shit into the refiner and see what happens. I do wish that I could have a refiner work while I am traveling. Maybe I can have this done once I do that base quest line.

I think the storyline quests have some regression issues to work out. I’ve lost the Artemis plotline from my quest log entirely after making the basic base (wooden shed) and jumping a couple of times, so I can’t continue the base questline. I’ve also had the Atlas plotline pop into my log suggesting I need to find more of the Atlas Interfaces I’ve just visited - except I haven’t visited any. The quests with Polo and Nada seem to be working alright, and I got my free freighter.
Yes, early on I had to repair terminals all over the frigate. Anyway, the bug resolved itself when I decided to send the frigat out on an expidition to see if it helped rest teh state - and it got destroyed. :P
Then I got a response from Hello Games for my save file to help them debug the issue (I’d entered a bug in their system)! Ah well! :D
I try to just carry condensed. If you stick that in as fuel in the refinery it converts instantly back to standard carbon when you pick the refinery back up! Probably a bug.
