Damn it, I saw the ship of my dreams the other day, but I can’t remember where… I’ve only been to six systems so far, so it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

Anyway, it just goes to show: if you see something you like, make a note, 'cause you might never find it again otherwise.

So when the heck do I get the blueprint/knowledge of how to make a placeable beacon?

I think it used to be one of the starting base quests but maybe that’s changed with NEXT?

Ugh, just had a CTD. Boo.

And thanks @Coldsteel. I didn’t realize your starting base opened up a quest line once established. It didn’t announce itself to me or anything. Of course my only “base” at this point is a little computer and a wooden shack with a forcefield for a door.

Well, not really ‘starting’ as it was attached to one of the specialists that you recruit.

I think the quest line in question is part of the Awakenings story, not the new early shack-building base stuff.

Yeah, you’re right. It’s been over a year since I did it so the memory was fuzzy. All I remember is that it didn’t take me that long to get it and it had something to do with my base. I prioritized doing all the specialist quests ASAP.

It’s from the scientist questline.

Any weapon recommendations for the multitool? I’ve not been impressed by the standard boltcaster or the scattergun? And grenades are bit bouncy until you get a homing mod. Any thoughts?

Where does this start?

What are people doing with their freighters? I sent a ship on two missions. The first one came back with some minerals. The 2nd ran into trouble and had to retreat. I have done nothing with it since. I am not sure what I should be using it for and if I am missing out on something big by not using it.

Sounds like you were doing what you were supposed to be doing until you stopped. Send frigates on missions, repair them, get more frigates, do more and tougher missions, get ever better rewards. They level up after you send them on enough missions and you can give them consumable boosts, but that’s the basic idea. It’s just a way of getting resources/cash on a timer.

Is there any trick to finding all the critters on a planet? I have a few worlds with 1 or 2 remaining. I sent like 2 hours on one, a glacial one, and did could not find the last critter. Also my extreme survival did not go up despite constant cold environmental damage. I just can’t seem to make progress on this and I know its on the polo list of things Ill need to level up.

Found this on Reddit:

It should be helpful when I play this weekend.

Have you purchased and installed any mods for them? I have A & S damage mods for my Boltcaster and it does pretty significant damage now.

Scientist quest line starts at your base. Follow the Overseers’ instructions to build and man a science station and the Korvax there will give you quests to do.

On Freighters, you’re doing it right. The more missions you send your frigates out on, the more materials, resources and cash they will bring back. You can add frigates to your fleet by approaching any fleet in any system and looking for frigates with a green freighter icon next to them. Get close, bring up your radio, and they will offer to let you inspect their ship, during which process you can hire them into your fleet for a one-time fee. I look at frigate missions as a way to make money/resources/items while I am offline or doing other things.

Look up. So many times I’ve been looking everywhere for one or two last critters and I forget to check the sky. Also, some critters only come out at night, so hang around at least a full day/night cycle. If your planet has storms, some critters only come out in storms, and other critters will rush for the cover of the nearest cave/shelter…so that can be a good time to search.

Perseverance? Generally, check different areas of the planet - around caves, in the water, in the air, and at day/night. Some are rarer (and worth more when you scan them). Generally water/caves don’t care about day/night but land/air do.

I don’t think there’s any real ‘trick’ to it.

Are people really shooting things? I am pretty peaceful myself. What are you shooting at? It seems like shooting sentinels is pointless because they just spawn more of them. I have not ran into any aggressive fauna yet.

If it scoots, I shoots.

Why? To what benefit? Do you just like killing innocent animals?

Pretty much. I bathe in the blood of innocents before heading off to bed.

To be serious, I’ve only shot sentinels and the occasional wildlife when I have missions to do so. There are some hostiles that need a good shootin’ though.

Lol. I cracked open some eggs and ‘biological horrors’ came at me. I took out about four of them but they kept coming at me. I hopped in my ship and swung around to blast them, but they were scattered.

This is not good. It makes me question whether to play this weekend:

The workaround hasn’t prevented some Reddit posters from losing their save game.
