Based on my extensive series of two (2) tests, yes, they are much rarer now. My two scans for distress signals found a no-ship site and a crashed freighter. I also rarely seem to find any on my radar just flying around. On the other hand I bought a nice class-A fighter for like 2,000,000, and I think prices for them used to be higher. It’s kind of funny that a spaceship costs about the same as a multitool.
I had another player join my game like that. He traveled to my planet, discovered the wildlife, visited for a while then traveled to another planet and system. It just means I had a visitor reading my oh so clever location names for an hour or so.
Another player came to visit and built a tiny base on my planet. It’s kind of nice to have someone drop in once in a while and to read what they are up to. Even if interaction with them is minimal or non existent.

I have two bugged quests, and I have googled them, but can’t find a solution.
The first is the base computer archives quest. If I follow the waypoint, its in the middle of space. I have restarted my game, and even gone back and destroyed my original base. Nothing helps.
The second is the weapons research task to kill the depots. I found the first one, and gunned them down in my ship. The depot is destroyed, but it does not register as such. I have restarted my game, and warped out of and back into this system. Its just there a smoldering wreck.
Any ideas? This game has a boat load of bugs.
Yeah, well, fighters are cheap. But, if you want to get yourself a nice 48 slot A class hauler to go with it, that will cost you 300 million and up. At least, it used to. I’m hoping I can find a decent crashed 30-40 slot hauler and just repair it rather than paying 50 million or so.
One thing that they may be doing (and I did it a couple of days ago) is going to the space station to buy an exosuit upgrade from the technology vendor there. If you have the virtual scratch, it’s way easier to do that than to find a drop pod and gather or craft ingredients to unlock the upgrade therein.
My strategy has been to use the space station upgrade for the main backpack section which is the least expensive at least for a long time. I use the ones planetside for upgrading the technology and the cargo sections which start out much more expensive.
That’s about the only thing the Scanner Beacon is reliable for; using a exosuit drop pod chip and even then I think you only are shown a single exosuite upgrade per planet.

I know the first one well; base computer archives quest. I wrote it upthread and if you google it you’ll find it but basically this: The waypoint gets moved to the location of your freighter. You can move your freighter within the system by use of the X key menu (or whatever button you use when you are hailed on comms). Just move it somewhere else and now the waypoint is truly in space an not ‘on’ the freighter. Now go back to your base, save and quit. Restart and select your quest again and it should highlight the base computer now.
The second I’m not so sure. Sounds like you are saying you blew up the tanks at a depot from the air and never landed? I think that if you do that (assault the depot from the sky) you still may have to land and/or walk into the vicinity of the depot so that it registers you are indeed there AND the number of tanks needed are destroyed. Another possibility is you have to do it in the flesh in order to get the materials you earn for busting the different tanks which you don’t get when you do it from your ship.
In either case there is a trick you might take advantage of on the Logs (quests) page. Highlight the quest that is bugged and use the 3rd mouse button to ‘reset’ the quest. I do not know if it works for any/all questlines but I know I have seen it on screen suggest that and that it worked in that particular instance.

The marker is not on my freighter. Its just in empty space (in the middle of asteroids). I only have once base now, and it tells me that my base is in a different system. I did move my freighter and that didn’t do anything.
Saving and restarting doesn’t seem to help.
As far as the 2nd quest, I did land and got out of my ship. I even jumped in the burning depot canisters (maybe there was a middle one I missed), bujt that did nothing. I even shot the sentinels just to be sure.
The middle mouse button on both quests doesn’t seem to do anything. There is no abandon / restart option. Ill google restarting quests on a PC, maybe there is a way.

hmm, one suggestion is to get super far away, and it might reset it. Perhaps joining a multi-player game will suffice.

Success.
So I joined another players game and selected both quests. I then did the weapon guys quest in the multi-player game. When I got back to my game, the base archives mission was now pointing at my freighter like Mr_Peach said. I then moved it, saved, and restarted it, and then I could progress to the next step.
When you join another player’s game, is that system and its planets added to your discoveries log?

I think so. I am looking for a radioactive world (this game needs a search function, like find the closest world that has X)… Anyway, In my log I have a world that is 1.2 million LY away. I am pretty sure I did not fly that far. In fact, I have not moved very close to the galactic core yet.

One of the depot-destruction quests requires you to use the multitool, I believe. Not 100% sure.
Yeah, the game really doesn’t like it when you use your ship to loot depots. It confuses it. Dirty cheater.
Yay, I finally found the last fauna species* (uncommon) on that one world I mentioned above. Also found my first crashed salvageable ship, but it wasn’t all that different from my current shuttle with 20 slots, so I passed.
*I hope everyone is aware that once you do that and upload the last one, you still need to hit the button next to the 9 out of 9 or whatever in order to get the special bonus nanites.
THIS. And to get credit for your progress. I believe Nada requires you to reach some bar in this area at some point.

Yes. And you can upload everything you find, that’s not already been discovered.
All right, so after faffing about (as our friends across the pond would say) near forever I FINALLY did the scripted freighter rescue mission and got myself a freighter. Now it wants me to build a base within the freighter but I keep reading about all these problems/bugs people are having with the whole base in the freighter thing. Can I just be an absentee landlord for now and it’ll be in stasis until all that’s sorted out, or what?
BTW is it not possible to summon owned ships to space stations? What about to a freighter (or does that require setting it up as a base first and all that)? I found and minimally fixed a salvageable explorer vessel, then at a trading post swapped it and some money for a working fighter, but I can’t seem to summon it remotely (it just says it can’t land there).
Oh, another quick question (spoilered):
I did a “dig up the keys at an ancient ruin” thing and opened a buried chest that contained a valuable desiccated animal hoof. Do I have to hang onto that or is is just to sell off for $$$?

What are people doing about pirates? Its like every 20 to 30 min I get attacked. The last time it was 5 to 1. Its getting ridiculous.

I had the same problem and multiple searches revealed several different possible fixes for this. This worked for me:
- Go to your freighter and save the game
- Unselect the quest
- Go to a planet in that same system and build a new base
- Select the quest - it should now be pointed at the new base computer
Let me know that work for your or not.
