Then I have no idea what triggers the base quests. It’s not the “Alone” quest because I completed that long ago.
I love the game so for me it’d be a resounding “yes”. I have well over 100 hours in it. But it really depends on what kind of games you like more than anything. Do you like exploration games? Do you mind mining resources? ADD types would probably hate this game, I think.
If you were to buy it on Steam, I’d say play it for 2 hours and refund if you don’t see anything you like.
Much appreciated, Woodlance!

Thank you Coldsteel but the cheaper price is on GMG and I have heard the first two hours are not indicative of the game as a whole given the frustration of the first planet and the interface.
If you can stick out the first couple of hours and you have at least 5 or 6 hours a week to play it, go for it. I’m having a blast.

I had the same thing with the depot. Just fly back to the nearest star port then back again took me three tries but finally got it to register them being destroyed. The great thing was i also got the loot three times:)
Long ago as in prior to the NEXT update? In that case I have no idea, my experience is just with a fresh game started this week.
No, long ago in my current, new NEXT game. I finished that quest maybe 10 game hours ago.

Just wanted to thank everyone that has posted tips here. I’m finally getting into the rhythm of the game and enjoying it immensely, now that I’m not instantly dying. :) Wondering what folks like @Desslock are thinking now.
Today I read of a brilliant strategy for harvesting the Whispering Eggs: establish a temporary base and build walls around them! Ka-ching!
Geez, just kill the horrors. Everyone is always trying to find get-rich-quick exploits! ;)
Saw another thing about building a dirt wall then tunneling under them, so the eggs roll down to where you’re waiting to collect them inside your little tunnel. :D
Now that the economy has changed, making space trucking on trade routes impossible (which sucks imho), you can no longer make millions buying low and selling high. You can, however, make millions just sitting on your ass at a trading post.
Everyone learns the blueprint for Circuit Board as part of their base building quests, fairly early on from the Scientist in fact. As part of the Circuit Board quest, you also learn Heat Capacitor and Poly Fibre. The Heat Capacitor is 100 Frost Crystals and 200 Solanium. The Poly Fibre is 100 Cactus Flesh and 200 Star Bulb. Put them both together and you get the Circuit Board, which sells for roughly 1.2mil units.
At trading posts, aliens will land every few seconds. They will happily sell you Frost Crystals, Solanium, Cactus Flesh and Star Bulbs…usually for only a few thousand units per 100+ batches. Hang around and trade for a few minutes, and 40K units or so later you have the ingredients to make a 1.2mil unit component. If you get lucky you might even find enough raw materials to make 2 Circuit Boards. Eventually the aliens will all run out of raw materials to trade you, at least for a little while, so jet off into the atmosphere and scan the planet…if you have an economy scanner you will probably see the location for another Trading Post marked. Land and repeat.

I’m now about 10 hrs in, still enjoying it. Working towards my next plot advance when I communicate with 30 aliens. Couple questions:
I found a crashed hauler. Seems like a lot of work to get it running. Worth it?
Language continues to be a barrier despite going hard after artifacts. The guilds won’t talk to me and I can’t seem to find any missions. Where and how to progress this part?
Thanks

Generally not worth it to get trashed ships into clean state, considering you can just buy them without too too much grinding for money. Sometimes you do find one which is so much better as-is that it’s worth it, though. Moreover, you can acquire a trashed ship without losing your old one, so one thing you can do is just leave it where it is after converting all its recyclable systems to resources and go back to your old one to fly around. Eventually when you get your freighter the trashed ship may show up again and you can do something with it then if you like.
To learn languages:
The NPCs in space stations and trade posts will generally teach you one or two words apiece if you have their racial resource. Geks are easiest because you always have units. You can also wander around the landscape looking for trashcans: there’s two or three of them at a time at monoliths and ruins. But the most language bang for the buck comes from Atlas stations, where those shimmery looking hemispheres in the floor have a chance of teaching you a word. You can pick up a dozen words at a time if you’re lucky there.
What you do with a salvageable crashed ship is claim it (it’s free after all), fix it just enough to get it flyable (the launch thrusters and maybe the pulse engine) and find a trading post on the planet and fly it there (or summon it there after flying there with your main ship). Wait till a ship that strikes your fancy (of somewhat similar value) lands and buy it for the exchange price. BTW you can always call your “real” ship to a landing pad at a trading post too. Just make sure that when you make the exchange you are exchanging the busted ship and not your real one.

well after 14 hours, I uninstalled. This game has some interesting things, but it is just not worth the frustration with the flight model. It’s like they ignore all the great games out there that show you how to fly and just said “fuck it, I’m going to invent something new that I think is better” and they were completely wrong.
I can’t fly this POS and without the ability to do that, it’s just not worth it.

Does anyone know if there is any kind of ship / multi-tool progression system? By that I mean, if you have a ship that is worth 2 million, then the most expensive ships that you can find to buy might be 50 million. If you had a ship worth 50 million, then the most expensive ships you could buy might be worth 1 billion, etc… The same with multi-tools.
The reason I am asking is that I frequently check out ships in various systems, along with multi-tools, and I generally see the same kinds of ships with the same kinds of stats. For example, I frequently see ships with hold slots in 30s, but I do not think I have seen one with 40, let alone 50+.
If you set flight sensitivity to 100, have the “tether” setting on, have an S class component upgrade to your pulse engine, and are flying a decent fighter, it flies almost just like Freelancer with m/k. It’s very sluggish until you change those settings, get upgrades and a good ship. With my new Exotic fighter I took out 5 pirates in 2 minutes last night and it was awesome.
Look for the better S/A class ships in the richer economy systems (install an economy scanner in your ship to check systems before warping there). You should be able to find some 48 slot ships there. I actually saw an A class 48 slot fighter yesterday for 50 million. I wish I had the units for it. I think 48 slots is the limit.
The ideal crashed ship imo is a Hauler with 40+ slots because it seems like they are grossly overpriced compared to all other types. I grabbed one the other day; A class, 47 slot hauler; blue book value on it is over 50M.
How many slots is it? If it’s a considerable slot upgrade over your existing ship, AND it’s a better class (Class A or B if your current ship is a C), then I’d say claim it, put it up on blocks in your freighter, and fix components as you have the time and resources. Since claiming a crashed ship is free, at the very worst it’s probably a 4-6 million unit trade-in on something nicer even if all you do is fix the engines to make it fly. I have one in my freighter right now that I only fixed the engine on. It’s basically a 6 million unit discount when I find the Hauler I really want.
For missions, your stumbling block might be reputation, not languages. Mission vendors require a certain reputation level with a faction before they will give out many of their missions. You can earn faction rep by trading artifacts like the Krovax Cubes, Gek Charms and Vy’Keen Daggers to NPCs of those factions, and you can receive it for reaching milestones in each factions language or by interacting correctly with NPCs in the various structures on planets and spaces stations. I believe the main story quest also gives you an intro to the mission system, unlocking each of the non-race factions (Explorers Guild, Merchant’s Guild, Mercenaries Guild) as you complete it. Keep in mind too, there are separate mission vendors for the Guilds at the space stations.
If you’re looking for A & S class ships of the best configurations, you need to be in the wealthiest systems. As @Coldsteel suggested, build an Economy Scanner for your primary ship ASAP. You can find the blueprint on the ship merchant in most Gek system space stations. On the universe map, if you have an Economy Scanner on your ship, each system will show it’s economy level when you select it. You want systems listed as “Affluent, Opulent, Wealthy, Booming, Prosperous, Flourishing, Advanced and High Supply”. These are all the High Wealth categories.
Once you find a high wealth system, head to a planet there that’s highly populated. Scan for trading posts, and land at one. Spend about 20 minutes watching all the ships landing there, and you should see a variety of A and S class ships. If you can’t find one you like, try moving to another planet in the system and landing at a trading post there. NPCs in each system are limited, so if you spend some time on each planet and start seeing the same ships over and over again, you need to find another wealthy system.
