I made a ton of progress last night- I got my freighter, and got my first step on both the Atlas and Artemis storylines. And at the site where that latter started with the distress beacon, I find my first crashed ship- a B-class Explorer. It’s super funky shaped, and it’s going to be a slog to get it fixed up, but it’s also worth 22.5 million credits?
I was going to set up my base in that system where I got the freighter, but both of the planets were death zones- super high toxicity/radiation and storms literally every minute or so. It was a pain just collecting the resources to fuel the freighter to jump out of there. The new one I’m in has six planets or something, so hopefully one of them is semi-livable.
PSA: Under the Next update you can now expand your Exosuit by a total of 48 slots. That’s up considerably from 25 slots in the previous update. However, if you chose to use your old pre-Next save, you are still limited to 25 expansion slots.
So, I guess this is another reason for me to stick with my new Next game and not go back to my old pre-Next save.

I should have purchased this while on sale. Dagnabbit.
Must…resist…urge…to…pay…full…price
Oh come on, join the forum! There’s several of us just getting started in this game so we can talk through the beginning parts. If you delay you’ll just be asking for tips from veterans, still useful but not the same. It’s a good value, even those that are burning out seem to get at minimum 30 hours out of it. That’s not bad on a dollars per hour basis. If it’s your type of game, like it seems to be mine, it could easily go far, far above that making the value decent. It’s a collectible / crafting / space exploration / open world, those words are like heroin right?
–I thought it would be fun to encourage somewhat wasteful (not on sale) spending of other peoples money. :)
SM’s reply is on point though you need the relevant recipes first. But honestly how I’m making most of my money lately is with Scanner upgrades. Flora is a flat 61k units and Fauna range from 125k to over 400k. That’s with 3x S-class upgrades.

Yes, S class scanner upgrades are good money. You can only have 3 installed. I had a 4th, but that overloaded the whole visor system. To bad I could not get a nanite refund.
Also, environmental shields do not stack. I bought two radiation ones, and when the first ran out of juice, my rad protection started ticking down even though the 2nd one was at full charge.
As far as how to make money, like in those videos, you need the recipes first. I just found out that manufacturing / operations centers can be found via the secure channel scan. I had been using the abandon structure scan trying to find them.
Does anyone have a way to farm nanites? Also, what is that third currency for?
Mercenary Guild missions from the freighter to kill pirates give ~250 nanites. If there isn’t one available you can just keep starting and immediately abandoning merc missions (the shield icon) until you get one. They are very quick to do, you don’t even need to kill all the pirates (just flying away after starting the fight will count as completing), though they are easy with a well equipped ship anyway.
Then just repeat until it doesn’t offer Merc Guild missions anymore, then you can go to another system, summon freighter and continue getting more.
A tip in that regard: it seems you can have more than 3 upgrades for backpack systems if you put 3 in the technology slot and 3 in the normal slots.
Not when you trade it in it won’t be… ;)
I got more than I know what to do with by just “playing the gametm”. Stock up on missions before visiting a planet, scan stuff (and upload) with good scanner upgrades (not sure these actually affect nanite payout?), talk to everyone.
Apparently it will be rewarded for doing the upcoming community events, and can be spent on cosmetics and eventually new ships.
Y U NO LISTEN TO US WHEN U ASKED SHOULD I BUY ON SALE?
Give it a couple of weeks, tops, and it will appear on sale again somewhere. It’s been cycling on and off sales for the past few months now, no reason to think that will end.
That’s odd, I have been adding slots to my suit from my pre-NEXT save, and I am well over 25 at this point. Though I was probably over 25 to begin with…so that may factor in. I’m at the max in Tech slots, just added the last Cargo slot, and am on my last row of General slots…
…and I still run out of room all the time. =)
Pretty picture time! Here I am paying my respects at the final resting place of a fellow Traveler. Who knows how he met his fate here in this lonely place, or what his last thoughts might have been, but at least he’s got a nice view for eternity. That’s my Blue Hornet bubble-bug Explorer ship in the background.
Haha traveler graves also seem bugged for me, as they don’t give me any symbols. It seems it’s a bug to be solved when the next patch goes official.
Does anyone know where to find Di-hydrogen except from crystals? It’s my one limiting resource now and stores never seem to sell any.
Until they patch it, you can use 30 Di-Hydrogen to make a Di-Hydrogen Jelly, then put the Jelly into the Refiner and it will break down into 50 Di-Hydrogen. Lather, rinse, repeat until you have enough Di-Hydrogen for your purposes.
30 becomes 50! It’s Space Alchemy!
I want them to add Lead as a mineable resource and an item called a Philosopher’s Stone so you can craft it into Gold.

But dihydrogen crystals are literally everywhere. It’s hard to walk 100 meters without finding a patch on almost every planet. It takes like 10 seconds to mine the whole patch, too. I don’t think I’ve ever run out of it for fuel.
Yes, but daddy’s fleet is always thristy and daddy don’t want to mine no more.
I’m a manager now, not an executant. If only my damaged frigate captains were aware of that…
If it’s for launch fuel, can’t you just buy scads of uranium from NPCs?
I’ve lost track, is cdkeys one of the good ones or are they questionable?
Depends who you ask… they’re a higher tier than the G2A’s of the world, but not quite as legit as a Greenman.
I’ve bought a fair few things there, they’ll look after you.
