I’m Scrooge McPeaCH, I can’t stand parting with 1M units for each one. :-)
But I spend a lot of time going to new systems and charting new planets and I would always set down the scanner booster thingamajig and search for both a Manufacturing Facility to farm recipes and a Drop Pod to expand the Cargo section of the Exosuit. I’ve long since maxed out the main section and the technology sections mostly through the space stations so I just need to complete the Cargo and damned if I’m going to pay 1M units per to do it!!! But I guess since I think I now have all the recipes I’m looking for I might be doing less and less of it… Boo.
You’re checking the starship vendor’s first option - blueprints? Not the upgrades option. I got to say it’s been so long I can’t remember not having it or where I got it but I don’t think the warp drive upgrades were quest related. Hmm.

I was lucky enough to get this at a discount. I think $23.99? I thought it was worth it at the time. I certainly think it’s worth that much now with all of the new stuff. Is it worth $59.99? I don’t believe so. YMMV
Note to self: Remember ‘Z’ key. Dummy.

Did something change with this last patch on item availability in stations? In the station where my home base is, I used to be able to buy 1000s of pure ferrite. Now its all gone. I have checked a few stations and I do not see this for sale anymore.

How large is your sample? Number of stations, I mean.
DeepT

Its just that this one station always had a supply and now doesn’t. Now I have looked at maybe 6 more and none have purified ferrite. They have the dust, just not the pure stuff.

I am going to say it got nerfed. I also used to get a lot of magnetic iron from killing pirates, and now I get very little.

I rename planets with a tag prefix and add any special notes. So Urden IIX becomes Milspec Urden IIX Hostile. You could keep track of numbers also. Take advantage of the ability to upload names for new systems and planets.
This.
My go-to is to re-use the given name and append that with race, economy and wealth. Pretty much I only go to wealthy planets and the race is to inform me what types of ships I can look for there and the economy for when I want to run trade loops (which I really don’t do much of any more). Obviously this is all information I could look up but having that info in the name is time saving.
Also - doesn’t the listing of systems and planets in the “P” menu go in order originally visited? Whereas if you use the teleporter between systems, that listing shows which systems you were most recently at (after listing any systems that have active quests and your home/base)?

What they need are filters on the UI. You should be able to list planets by wealth and economy types, among a lot of other things.
Hey DeepT,
Did you solve that “kill 8 sentinel” base mission yet?
I had a hell of a time figuring this out. My counter kept resetting. Kept getting killed by walkers.
What I did to fix it ended up being simple.
Kill just one of the little bastards then RUN!
Do NOT hide in a cave (natural or man made) or the counter resets.
Do NOT hide in your base or building or your ship or the counter resets.
Lose the sentinels but stay outside the whole time until the angry timer times out.
The kill counter should increase. Repeat this for all 8.
If I killed two at once the dog sentinel comes for you and it just escalates from there because there aint no running from the dog on foot out in the open.
What a pain that mission was.

That’s next up on my list but it sounded like a pain so I haven’t done it yet. Thanks for the tips.
Speaking of shooting sentinels, really dumb question time: how do you shoot (on Xbox)? I’ve been basically using the mining laser which works, but very slowly, and I’m pretty sure it’s not firing the weapon I have installed, but equally there’s no obvious button to press to switch to the weapon. Pressing Y to switch modes just goes between mining laser and terraformer.

If you have a weapon installed on your multitool like the boltcaster, hitting Y should cycle to it.
Also, make sure when it’s selected that you have some projectile ammo in your inventory and load it by hitting the ‘reload’ button.

No I have not. So you select the quest, then it spawns the two, you kill one and run? Doesn’t it keep spawning them non-stop? Did you run on foot? I have no idea how you kill walkers. They seem impervious to damage.
Maybe that’s it. I have definitely had projectile ammo in an inventory before, but maybe not my exosuit inventory. It’s sitting on my freighter at the moment. Weird that it wouldn’t even let me select the weapon though.
DeepT,
Yes and yes. Just like you said. Select the quest, kill one and run. There will be another spawned or three. Stay out side. They will give chase but you can lose em fairly easily by running and jetpacking over the hills. The aggro time will start and tick down. Let it. Then go back and kill another single and repeat.
This seems to keep the conflict level below dogs and walkers which for me is impossible. Dogs aren’t that hard but killing one brings the walker and its game over. When the walker comes you will only have killed 5 or so not the 8 needed. Oh and the walker never seems to give up the hunt even when I cut bait and hide in a cave.
P.S. I had heard the way to take a walker is by its legs. Never tried it myself though.
edit: can’t type

When I did the quest I killed the first 4 with my blaster, then killed the dogs and walker with my starship. Just be sure to be close up when they die, or it won’t score them. And oh boy, I can’t possibly underrate the quest reward enough.
I’m confused about the Geology Cannon. I assumed it was an alternative to the terrain manipulator and would be a great way to quickly mine copper, for instance. But all it does is punch holes in the ground (or kill you if you’re too close!). Maybe it’s good for combat?
