wow, cool, thanks. less than 2 weeks. I hope I do not get nausea

As mentioned upthread, you can get it for just under $23 from GreenManGaming right now using code SUMMER10 for the additional 10% off, plus you’ll get a free Gold Tier gift game and an Intel Starter Pack which is good for 4 more games. Hurry though, sale ends in a few hours.

No Man’s Sky got a huge playability boost when the NEXT update came out last year. I waited until that point to play, and went in thinking “if I’m entertained for 10 hours I’ll have considered it worth my money”. I’m closing in on 250 hours played. It’s beautiful, it’s interesting, and it’s more than a little addictive in that fiddly “I just want to do one more thing then I’m going to bed” sort of way.

Beyond will add much improved multiplayer and social elements to the game as well as VR support. They haven’t really said if there will be new content or UI changes, but I’m guessing there will be at least of little of that as well to introduce all the new features.

What are the things you want to do in the game? I’m asking because these sandbox-y games often bore me pretty quickly. Seeing a new planet only goes so far for me. So does building a base with some legos.

With NEXT (released last year), NMS got a lot more structured, which was the big knock against it at launch.

What happens now is that you spend your first few hours with the game just trying to survive, most likely all on your starting planet, by gathering resources, learning how your systems work, repairing your crashed ship, all led by a decent tutorial and all while exploring and discovering.

Once you have your feet under you (and your ship in the sky), the game opens up. I highly recommend following the storylines it gives you, as they will take you to new places, show you some cool stuff, and introduce you to new elements of the game. While you’re chasing down the tasks the story sets for you, you’ll discover new systems and new worlds, and you’ll take long breaks from the story to accomplish other self-appointed tasks like upgrading to a way larger and cooler ship, raiding planetary facilities for tech blueprints, building a simple base for resource gathering and storage, learning how to discover and profit from trade routes, running missions for the alien races and factions to gain reputation, which in turn opens up much better upgrade options and access, improving your ship’s systems, finding, purchasing and improving a capital ship, and the big meta-game of discovery : reaching the 10-star level in each exploration/discovery category. You can do all that and never even start on the supposed core goal of the game, which was to reach the center of the universe.

Speaking of NEXT, did they end up re-balancing the land vehicles, by chance? I remember when it launched, the guns and mining lasers on the vehicles sucked compared to what you had on foot.

It’s not just multiplayer and VR, they still have one more pillar to reveal!

Where did the video link disappear to?

It’s on the page in the original link above. It’s just a launch date reveal, not really a trailer.

Here. :)

Interesting. Anyone well versed in the game have any idea what that new area might be? Some sort of dungeon?

No one knows. Hello Games has not revealed a thing. Reddit is awash with jokey speculation, but the reality is everyone will find out on 14 Aug when it’s released.

The day after Rebel Galaxy Outlaw drops? Not me, I will be busy.

OK, I’m convinced. I bought it. Can’t wait to get home now!

Enjoy, it’s a ride and an excellent exploration game.

Alright alright this might just have been what I needed right now.
A little stuck though and it’s frustrating. Got off the first planet, founded a base got up a little nice base camp house and a recruited a lil guy to operate my base computer. Now he want’s me to hire a scientist but I can’t warp out of planet yet.
A little googling found that in order to warp, I’ll need to get a Hyperdrive and missions that get me Antimatter:

“Once you’ve mastered the basics of building bases, you’ll get an emergency broadcast coming from the nearby Space Station.”

But I haven’t received an emergency broadcast. All I have in my mission log is to find that stupid scientist. I’ve been travelling to the other planets in the system, talking to every Vykaar on the space station, built and rebuilt my base, located other beacons and stuff… but I really can’t progress until this mission shows up.
So, should I just… scratch all and start from the beginning?

After you built your first rudimentary base and survived the storm, did you build the blueprint analyser?

I think you need to use that to unlock two blueprints before you’ll get the broadcast that leads you on to the hyperdrive.

Yeah I built that, and I’ve unlocked a ton of different blueprints. No broadcast.
Also read now that the distress signal takes you to a shelter where you meet an alien who you help, and he gives you the blueprint for the hyperdrive, but I actually already found that shelter and met the said alien. I gave him water to drink (didn’t have enough carbon on me then), and he gave me credits as a thanks. So… did I just fuck that entire mission up? Lol

After unlocking two base-building blueprints using the Analyser, did you then use the Base Computer and ‘scan the archives’ again? That’s the point where you should get a message that leads you off looking for answers.

No, I doubt you found that exact shelter… the planets are massive! (and the structures are everywhere and all look pretty similar) ;)

And even if you did, I don’t think the blueprint-giving would be available unless you were up to that part in the story.

Hmm maybe not! Will have to try that again then =) Previously, every time I go to the Base Computer, it only asks me if I want to upload my base camp, nothing else.

That’s odd, because the Base Computer ‘scan archives’ is a story thing that initially gives you the Blueprint Analyser. It then says something like ‘come back later’ if you haven’t unlocked 2 blueprints using the Analyser.

Do you have the simple base circular room unlocked?

(If so, it is another milestone the base computer wants. Build one. Then go back and talk to the base computer.)
