Learned a bit more about hotspots after exploring the area around my new base some more. So far I’m still just seeing gas (Nitrogen and Oxygen, so far), ore (Iridium and Paraffinium) and thermo, all Class C. So I’m assuming that’s what I’m going to find on this planet. A higher class (A, B or S) would mean more output, but I’m getting plenty of juice from my generators.
Here’s what the scanner looks like just after you’ve scanned for some. The icons seem to hang around for a while, hopefully they remain after loading back in.
With this new resource, it’s getting harder to choose how to spend my five beacon allotment now. I have to split them between the hotspots and regular mineral deposits that I’m mining, and don’t have any left to mark other locations of interest on the planet.
None of the new hotspots I’ve found are within the bounds of my new base, and I’m guessing that’s an intentional design decision. According to something I read today, I may be able to figure out how to extend my base a bit to reach one of them. Otherwise I’ll have to set up little mining outpost bases. Oh and this gives me an excuse to look into short range teleporters, although standard teleporters are cheap to make.
I reached that after about 20 hours of playing, and by that time I had spent A LOT of time just milling around, exploring space. So I guess you could reach it in at least 15 hours
A colleague of mine borrowed me his VR set! Thank god I have no life and a full weekend ahead of me =) =) =)

Since I haven’t played in a long time I re-rolled new and played a ton of time yesterday. Are the exosuit slots still done the same way on planet via finding the correct POI type via the discovery buildings, then flying to it and entering the small container-thing?
I’m hurting for cash this time around. I did get a base set up but have no long term power. I briefly tried biothermal, hahahahaha. I went through carbon like it was nothing! So far so good but I don’t have a single +slot upgrade, new multitool or new ship.
Every space station has a exosuit slot upgrade station that you can use once (for a fee). Price increases for each additional slot, but it’s still very affordable, and for a while much easier than looking and fixing pods on planets.

Well crap. I’ve walked right by two of those then, not knowing. I’ll head back to the space station.
It’s easy to miss. Look for the NPC selling exosuit upgrades. Behind and to the right of them there’s a vertical-half-tube of sorts. If it hasn’t been used yet, it should have green light accents on it. Just interact, choose where your slot goes, and buy it. The lights will turn to red after that and it can’t be interacted with anymore, so if you ever think you missed one you can quickly check.

You rock, @rhamorim. Thank you!
I did this too in the beginning =)=)=) Didn’t realize you had to walk inside that tube behind the seller. Lol.
Soo,… where do I get a car?
Exocrafts? Not sure how it is in Beyond, but it was pretty high in the base tech tree (in terms of research and necessary materials) in previous versions. I never got one. Maybe I will in my new game now. ;)
The thing that took me the longest to get used to (or get over) was that it really doesn’t matter one bit in the game if you can’t find that trading post/resource deposit/crashed ship/drop pod/outpost/whatever again after you found it the first time, because there are literally millions of them in game and not returning to that exact one will not harm or set you back in any way. Simply move on, warp to the next system even, and keep exploring. Everything important to the story is tagged so you can find it, and your base is always accessible through the portals, while you can summon your freighter from almost anywhere, so everything you NEED is always available, and every thing you WANT can readily be found in abundance once you have the tools to look for it.
That’s the real quest path or task tree of Mo Man’s Sky…building yourself up to the point where locating, harvesting and building what you need is trivial or close to it. It takes a long time, and a lot of effort, but it’s very much worth the journey as you’ll encounter a hell of a lot of really cool stuff along the way.
I wish I could actually play the damn game right now so I could help some people out, but no matter what I try it still won’t even launch for me after the Beyond update. My Nvidia drivers are up to date, I reset the firewall and anti-virus settings for the game, had Steam do an integrity check on the files, set the NMS.EXE to run as Administrator…and still nothing. The little Steam pop up says it’s Preparing to launch No Man’s Sky…and then disappears, leaving me still staring at my desktop with nothing NMS related running in the applications or processes list. Even the patch they released yesterday didn’t change things.
Previous versions of the game gave you a free freighter early now. But I’ve played a good while in Beyond (new game, because I wanted to see all the changes in the tutorials and everything) and no free freighter yet. Which is sad because how am I going to retrieve the crashed ships I find otherwise?

Not sure if you have a VR headset. Even if not, if the game offers a VR launch option, do it, then when it fails, relaunch via the normal selection instead of VR.
Between that and my video driver, that got me over the hump and I can launch and play just fine now.
I do not have VR, but will try that. Thanks for the advice!
I may also try simply deleting the entire game and letting Steam reinstall it from scratch, although that doesn’t seem to help anyone else on the internet who has run into my issue.
Am I correct in assuming that switching between VR and monitor on the same save file is no problem? I prefer this game on my couch via Steam Link, but also have an Oculus to try.
You are correct. Unless it’s bugged of course, but that is the intent…
UPDATE: I was able to fix my issue and am able to run NMS now!
I did the following:
Run Regedit
Navigate to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\Vulkan\Drivers
Find the DWORD entry “C:\Windows\System32\amd-vulkan64.json”
DELETE that entry, no others, just that one.
Close Regedit, attempt to launch the game again…now it works.
Apparently Steam was trying to load drivers for an AMD card I don’t possess? Anyway, it’s fixed and launches now. WOOO!!!

I’ve been enjoying the beyond update. It really is a work of art, and amazing what they’ve accomplished. There are still things that I find annoying, like the inability to map things, but I sure do enjoy exploring and figuring things out. I have a simple, tiny base at the moment and just got some power online, a storage container, a teleporter, and an exocraft. Is killing pirates the best money maker to begin with? I’ve been killing them for bounties when they pop up while mining asteroids for things to sell. I’m only on my second system at the moment. There is a crashed ship that would be nice back in the first system, but it will take some work to get it functioning again. I haven’t played much since when it first released. Do I have to fix everything on the ship, or just like the launch thruster and pulse drive?
Also, anyone know where to get a sodium diode? No one wants to sell it in the global trade network :(.
In my experience the best money maker is to get some nanites and then load up your visor with three S class scanning modules and scan fauna and flora. I get like 150k for most things and the rare ones can go as high as 350k. Just hop around systems, land and scan the money into your bank account. With the decreased presence of sentinels it should be even easier now.
You can do trade runs too but that requires some thinking and planning so I skip that.

Is there a trade network console in the anomaly? I didn’t notice one when I looked. Not too big a deal to hop over to a station, but would be convenient.
