Yeah that tends to be my earlier game strat too. Ties in to what I like doing - exploring and cataloguing! :)
No trading of any kind in the Nexus yet, unfortunately.
Last night just before turning in I discovered all my base devices (trade terminals, specialist counters) and all my biodome plants were gone. My cubes and their contents were fine, everything else was fine. Then I saw a comment in a reddit post about a possible base construction limit bug people are seeing. So after replanting and saving, I decided I might just let the game chill for a few days in the hope that this gets fixed before I play again.
I must be missing something obvious. I’m on the awakenings bit where I’ve built the teleporter at my base. It now says to follow the footsteps of my predecessor and visit the space station. I’ve powered up the teleporter, but it says the network is offline and I do not see an option for going to the space station. What am I missing?
Yeah, the game isn’t recognizing my gamepad. I haven’t tried the steam controller on link yet. The key re-binding also isn’t working. Likely good for a couple weeks for this cleanup stuff.

You have to use your ship to fly up, then you use the portal to come back. When you need your ship you’ll have to also summon it back down to the planet, or use the teleporter to get back up from your side.
Also, you don’t have to have power on to yours to portal to it from somewhere else. Just going outbound.
Thanks. THat was confusing as it walked you through powering it up, so I mistakenly assumed I was supposed to use it.
Did you try starting the game in Big screen mode? Thats how you get controller support.

Do you need to have a freighter to have more than 1 ship in your collection? I grabbed a crashed ship I found earlier, and the way it was worded made it sound like I was adding, but my original doesn’t show up in the switch ship menu from the d-pad.
You can still summon another working ship in your inventory, they’re just not stored anywhere.
Dang really hope they didn’t remove the free freighter, started a new game yesterday to get a grip of the new stuff.
Also - VR was so cool!! Only I got motion sicknes after 30’minutes and had to lie down lol. Maybe I’ll get used to it.
Haha! What headset? It’s not a very smooth experience atm on the Oculus so that would contribute. Maybe the native OpenVR sets are better.
Many people do adjust after getting their ‘VR legs’, but some don’t. Personally I got queasy with the older tech the first couple times but these days I can fling around with abandon for hours at a time, free of any nausea.
Are you sure about that? I was convinced you traded the ships so that when I found a class A ship on a crashed planet that I really wanted, I didnt take it because I was sure I lost my current one - This is without a freigther, by the way.
Thanks, that worked, it was a setting in big screen mode.
Actually my earlier complaint about navigational beacons being too far into the game? If I’m not mistaken they are an early unlockable now. Much better! In fact the whole ‘blueprint analyzer’ seems to have been replaced with a ‘research tree’ which is much, much more satisfying to me personally.
I have two ships and no frieighter in a brand new save. Make sure you chose “Add to Collection” with the new ship if you want to keep access to the first!
I found an A class freighter, but repairs would have taken a lot. More than were reasonable before I even built my first base. So I traded it to a Gek, who seemed to think it was an excellent deal for a B class explorer in 100% working order at the second trade outpost I found.

I summoned it to a building and can hop between them. The problem will be switching ships out of system w/o freighter, since I don’t think I could summon the ship I wasn’t using off-planet. May need to retest that.

Started over on my Xbox last night and this game grabbed me all over again. The tutorials are so much better! I love how all the guides telling you how to build things, craft things, etc. are fully interactive, highlight the relevant pieces of the UI, and tell you step by step.
The game is so complicated, man. But I like it.

Even with a freighter it seems like I’m losing my current ship when I claim a wreck. I claimed one, and then went to look under switch ships and my previous ship is not there. I went ahead and reloaded the auto save from when I landed, because I just got this ship pretty much fixed and don’t want to lose it.
The scripted mission to get a freighter seems almost too easy. I ended up with an a class ship, and just finished the first expedition.
Trying to place a medium refiner and couldn’t. Reading online it appears it needs to go into a prefab structure in case someone else runs into this.
So after struggling for two days to even run the game again, I got in last night only to discover that now I can’t see alien, animal and player character textures. Gek appear as empty spacesuits, Polo is a pair of floating eyeballs, Nada is a cape floating in the air, animals on planets range from just eyeballs to wings or legs visible but no heads/bodies, and I cannot see myself (in third-person) at all, nor can I see other players.
I bug reported to Hello Games. Steam discussion forum has a huge post filled with people having the same issue, mostly NVidia 10XX users. I suspect something wasn’t optimized correctly by the devs in the switchover from OpenGL to Vulkan for the 10XX cards. How the hell do you not thoroughly test literally the most popular line of graphics cards in existence when doing something so major to your game?
At this point, while the game is not unplayable for me, the sheer amount of show-stopping bugs and glitches that somehow made it through testing, both those I have experienced myself now and those I am reading about on the forums, mean that I will be stepping away for a couple of weeks at least until they clean up their act. I have a ton of respect for Hello Games and the job they’ve done turning NMS around from it’s initial launch disaster, but then they follow up the amazing NEXT update last year with this complete nightmare of a release, and I wonder if they’ve learned anything from their past mistakes. Sean crowing about the billboard while thousands of players can’t even launch or properly play the game seems like his initial tone-deaf PR disaster all over again.
I’ll come back in a month when it’s playable.

For the most part it has been playable for me, but I’ve crashed a few times. Luckily it mostly involved the anomaly so there was a very recent autosave.
Did you try the fix listed here?
This is harsh, do you know how many fixes they’ve put out since the game launched? They’re working really hard. And the billboard was an amazingly positive thing that the community deserved recognition for.
This is the ‘crowing’

I’m still having fun, but there are annoying issues popping up every so often. The latest was a door disappearing on my base. I built another door, and get inside to find my medium refiner is gone as well.
I also ran into an issue where a part for the multi-tool was showing it needed components for the part next to it not what it needed, which I had in my inventory. I finally was able to add a ship to my collection. I had to not have any cargo in my current ship when I did the claim. I don’t know if it has always been that way, or if it is a bug.
Yeah, same happened to me. Ships are added to the collection correctly when you buy them, but claiming abandoned ships isn’t working as it did. Not sure if it’s a bug or if they changed the behavior intentionally.
I guess I can always buy a cheap ship, drop a save beacon on a downed ship I’m interested in reclaiming, call my freighter, switch to the cheap ship and then reclaim it. That way I don’t lose a lot.
Speaking of losing: be cautious with the “trade-in” options when buying ships. It seems to be bugged and I lost nearly 2 million credits because of that.
