I always like starting over. I think I’ve restarted each time a major expansion released!

Is there a way to capture animals from other planets to bring back to my home base?
So, I’m going to try again with NMS. Is there any updated guide I can watch or read to get me past all the initial futzy learning curves and to give me a nice progression of things to do to get running?

I just saw this “Things I wish I knew” post that covered alot.
So after a dozen hours, I got the basics back: A-class freighter, 24-slot A-class multitool and most of the important blueprints for my temporary base. My ship still stinks, but I haven’t found a model I like yet.
So uh, does anyone live anywhere particularly nice? Any interest in setting up a neighbourhood somewhere?
I doesn’t have to be this nice:
Sure, sounds interesting. What platform are you on? (PS4 here.)

I got a bug while playing. My next mission is to check my base computer for an update. I think it’s called 'Check Base Computer, however when I google it I come up with a similar bug where it tells me that it focuses on my freighter instead of my base. Funny thing is I didn’t have a freighter when the bug cropped up. Anybody have this happen? Anybody know how to fix it? I now have a freighter, but it doesn’t focus on the freighter. I’m going to try that fix just in case, but would like to know if there is another fix. I should mention that I don’t have an advance mining beam yet and wonder if that’s what I’m going to get. Anyway help!!!
Is this a pretty old save? I’ve never heard of the base computer mission tying a waypoint to a freighter before, so I’m not sure about that, but if I were you I would (1) select the mission in your log, (2) open the galactic map and choose “current mission”, and (3) look for the system it’s pointing to. You should be able to figure it out from there. If you can’t identify where it wants you to go from that, you’ll probably have to reset the mission (if the game let’s you, R3 on the controller, on the mission in your log). Some missions can be reset, some can’t.
If you’re still stuck at that point, you’re probably going to have to just ignore the mission for a while, or start a new save if you really want to complete the mission.
Very common bug in old times. Not sure what fixed it, but one thing you can try is jumping (or teleporting) to a different system, calling your freighter there, then going back to your base. If even then it doesn’t work, save, reload the game, and it should be OK.

I had this! To fix this, go back to your initial base. Save the game, then reload last manual save. But you have to warp to the base from somewhere else for it to work. If it doesn’t work then bring your freighter there and do the same. This worked for me :)

How did you get an A class freighter in just a dozen hours?
I made a dumb mistake and built my primary base on a hilly, mountainous planet without knowing the exocraft missions would have me driving all over.
Speaking of which, why is driving that buggy so weird? Why can’t we just accelerate and steer with the left thumbstick?
Just get the mech and be happy forever. ;)
There’s an exo blueprint station in the Anomaly.

Is there a tutorial or story quest to unlock it? Or do you just buy it?
Once again everyone. Thanks for being so helpful!
Just like someone said earlier, the first freighter is free and you can wait if you don’t like what’s offered to you after the “save the freighter from pirates” event. I just lucked out and the second one I was offered was A-class. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle of save-scumming when starting the game, though. I would’ve settled for anything above a C.
The exocraft missions… can be completed by just flying your ship there. I don’t know if that’s cheating, but, eh, y’know.
So… what would be the criteria for a nice place?
A rich, yellow system with lots of planets and on a lush planet with water? Basically the same as what’s in the screenshot? Does it matter if it’s close to the center of the galaxy or not?
I’m taking for granted it’s in the Euclid galaxy.
I’m not really settled yet, so I can move to someone else’s planet, uh, eventually, when I become able to move really long distances.
Anyone else on PS4?
That’s what I did, because I didn’t feel like an exocraft racing refresher. Also, I don’t remember the exo guy at my base ever mentioning the Minotaur. Did I miss something there? Whoever is in charge of base-related missions over at Hello Games must be feeling pretty isolated these days, because there is very little tying the base stuff to anything else in the game, not counting getting some free recipes and a “how bases work” tutorial.
Yeah, rich Yellow is probably the ticket. Green and Blue have more lucrative resources, but it’s easy enough to set up mining elsewhere, and finding the right planet in Blue and Green systems takes a little patience. Aside from the ecosystem and sentinels, having fewer hills and mountains also helps.
I think being close to the Center also means being close to other Players’ discoveries, based in what I saw when I hopped seven galaxies from Euclid to Kikolgallr. (Later, I completed a mission which took me from there directly to Eissentam.) And the systems and planets you find closer to the Center follow the same rules as any other part of a given galaxy.
I’m down to meet up in the game if you guys are, and I can reach Euclid from a teleporter any time.
