I lost track with all the updates… it’s still possible to go back the galaxies permanently with portals?
Portals are mainly for missions and ship hunting. They limit what you can actually do on the other side. Base and station teleporters are what you want for revisiting galaxies you’ve been to.

What’s special about yellow systems?
Well, nothing. They’re the basic system: they don’t require special tech to go to and they have less extreme planets. That would make it simpler to find a nice, simple, spot to set up shop.

Ohhh less extreme planets? Cool I will start to focus on them as I’m burned out on extreme planets… Literally and figuratively lol.

Thanks, that helped I was able to complete that part of that story line.I also got a class A freighter by save scumming for about a half an hour. It’s only got 19 slots, but took it any way because I got tired of save scumming.

Upon damage, do you always return frigates to home?
I am getting tired of repairing damaged frigates. Any way to have less come back damaged?
Take a look at your frigates at the frigate management terminal on your bridge and note their specialties, bonuses, penalties, and rank/star rating. You’ll want to pick expeditions that are ranked at about the level of the frigates you’re sending, and at least some frigates that are of the right type for the mission and have bonuses matching the type of mission. And throw in one or two combat and support frigates. You can also throw in stuff like Mind Control Drones (for example) to increase their chances of success even further.
As you successfully complete more and more expeditions, over time your frigates will level up, gain bonuses and lose disadvantages. Eventually all of your frigates will graduate to S Class.

Good tips. Specific to your advice, I’ve always wondered if it’s possible to have more that 1 expedition out at once. When I go back to ask for more missions (for the frigates still in the fleet) he says the command room is already taken. Can I make more than one of those? Are we limited to one very long frigate mission per play?

Am I blind? All I see are star levels for the expeditions. How does that translate? If an expedition was 2 star trading then I was sending three 20+ trade ships.
One Fleet Command Room per expedition, and although I haven’t really tested this, I think the max number of expeditions you can have going concurrently is only limited by the amount of room you have for Fleet Command Rooms and the number of available frigates.
Edit: Oh, more about the cap here:
https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Frigate
Your navigator presents five new expeditions per day (0:00 UTC reset) on the freighter bridge for up to 5 frigates each. Since the duration of some expeditions is greater than one day—and since you could take all the available missions just before the daily refresh—it is possible to have more than five of them active at the same time.
If an expedition has a 2-star rating, you’ll want to send 2-star frigates (or higher). Take a look at your Frigate Management Terminal, which is near the other terminals on the bridge, to see the frigate stats.

Whoa, I didn’t know there were star levels on the frigates.
I found the repair is more specific than that. You want to look at the combined skill number for the frigates selected. For general missions, all skills matter. For specific types of missions, it is that mission type that matters. So Trade skill sum for Trade missions. I notice fewer repairs if there is a support frigate, I’m not sure why.
If the total of that skill number is lower than a certain threshold for the mission your chances of repairs goes up, sometimes way up. And it is balanced for five frigates. So by only sending three that sum may be too low. Try those three and if no others send two more frigates and just pick the two with the highest trade number, and it may get you over the line. Often I send three (or four) of the right type, the fourth with something in the stat, and the support with the highest of that stat. If a generalist mission, make sure you have some of every skill present, any mix of ships (but usually one support).
This info is pre-Living Ship, but I suspect has not changed. Starting yet another new save and not to freighter yet. But I’ve had great luck with even my starter frigates on new saves coming home fine once I worked them this way.

So to get a better starting freighter, you can’t simply turn down the freighter and then do more rescues until you like it? You need to exit without saving and then re-enter the system again for another random chance?
You can, but rescue opportunities may be few and far between, so the “load scumming” thing is more guaranteed.
I never did neither though. Got the first freighter that appeared. I needed it so I could acquire new ships ASAP. ;)

Hint for everyone. I switched my run option form the thumbstick to the x button, and it has totally saved my hand and carpal tunnel. Running is so much easier now.

When do you need to save? Before you enter the system that has the freighter? In fact, when are saves done? I am not playing this now, but I was thinking about doing so in the not too distant future.
Game saves automatically every time you leave your ship, or interact with a beacon or save point. There’s no auto saving in space, which is why you can use that trick. ;)

When you see the mission pop up you can fly to the station and save then complete the mission. If you dont like the freighter just reload and fly out and finish it again. This method will save you having to warp into the system every time.
