It’s been days so maybe you’ve sorted it out. But most missions can be easily reset. In the Logs menu, bring up the mission, then press the ‘mousewheel/3rd mouse button/whatever-the-controller-uses’. Sometimes you need to teleport or warp out of the system you’re currently in after you do that too.

Some general thoughts about NMS and base-building after coming back recently after some time away from it.

Survey Device is a Multi-Tool upgrade available at the Space Anomaly. With it (and a toggle switch) you can detect Electromagnetic Hotspots and gauge their relative strengths. (Strength not that important as you can just build multiple EM Generators at the site to multiply your power.) I would not consider starting to build a serious base w/o first determining the location of the nearest EM Hotspot. And while you don’t need to build right on top of it, you don’t want it to be too far away. There are ways to game the system after placing your Base Computer down and stretch out “decorative” build objects in @ 145u increments so you can build the generators but it’s a bit fidgety.

Now you can find planets with no sentinels (*) so you can scoot around in your Exocraft busting stuff up to your hearts content. I would only consider building a permanent base on such a world. Together with that, no extreme weather (obvious) but you can find planets that never have weather events. Who doesn’t love a good earth-like planet, am I right? But give me a good Desert, Hot, Cold, Irradiated or Toxic world that has no weather events and I’m quite happy. Trivial to wear several (up to what, six?) modules against the dominant condition and stock up on whatever refuels it. It feels like you’re more apt to find “megafauna” on the non-earthlike planets.

(*) No sentinels randomly roaming the countryside. They will still appear around certain structures and/or can be summoned by certain acts / missions.

Good tips, @Mr_PeaCH. Only thing I’d add is, you only really need EM power at your home base if you want to set up a bunch of biodomes for farming, or if there happens to be a useful mineral/gas hotspot nearby.

I do most of my big power-hungry industrial stuff away from home. I have EM-powered mining operations for rusted metal (refine to ferrite dust), magnetic ferrite (refine to pure ferrite and other stuff), oxygen (several uses), active indium (sell), and active copper (refine to chromatic metal, although there are better sources/recipes). Right now, I’m setting up an operation where I’ll be mining gold, silver and emeril all at one site. (Gold+silver->platinum->nanite.) The central base in this operation is where I’m installing three groups of color-coded mineral depots and some refiners.

Picking multiple hotspots that are close enough together can be tricky. For the current setup, I was lucky enough to be able to place the base computer at about the same distance from all four hotspots (~650u), but I still had to use the base boundary trick you described.

Accurate measurement can be tricky when extending base boundaries. For this I use a combination of custom markers, my ship, and exocrafts.

One other thing: if you plan to do several mining operations like I’ve been doing, work on your rusted metal, magnetic ferrite and oxygen production first. It’ll save you many trips for ferrite purchases.

How about setting up on a sexy exotic planet? I don’t think I’ve seen most of the types yet.

Wow, salvage planets are no joke. I was making 1 million credits a minute without much of a setup… ah but I think some of it was luck.

“Seek the a Final interface”
“Complete the Atlas Path”
“Explore the Galaxy”

I have to pick on as I finished the glyph thing. Will I break anything if I choose atlas path? I don’t want to lie my chance to just explore around the galaxy and at some point I want to seek the final interface.

The quest outcomes have zero effect on what you can do later (minus some technology blueprints, most of which can be obtained in other ways), but what those choices in the galactic map actually mean are (1) show me the way to a system that’s closer to the next Atlus quest point, (2) show me the way a system that’s closer to the next Artemis quest point, or (3) screw the quests for now, I’m just going to do my own thing. Feel free to head closer to or further away from those destinations, your options will remain open.

The Exo-mech Minotaur. Any of you having trouble piloting it? Trying to turn in that thing is like trying to move a barn on a rollerskate. It is so weird it just doesn’t want to turn. I feel like I’m doing something wrong but can’t figure it out. How are you supposed to turn in it?

It has a limited waking turn radius. Jump to everything you’re going to, and turn in the air rather than on the ground. I think of it as a jumper and not a walker.

It’s best suited for mining and terraforming, and does well underwater compared most of the other exos, but for general getting around (on the ground) I usually use the Pilgrim.

What @barstein said: abuse the jumping on the Minotaur to go where you want to. You can get almost anywhere with it, and with the jets it’s pretty fast too. Really useful to go Gravitino Ball hunting, and even better to get Storm Crystals in extreme planets.

This. This is how I make bank in the early/mid game. Find a planet with Storm Crystals, buff your shields to handle whatever extreme weather is on that planet, then spend an hour or so collecting crystals. I believe they’re worth 65,000 credits each, so it doesn’t take long to rake in 10-20 million. It also counts as time towards your Extreme Survival Milestones.

Edit: Getting Extreme Survival is extremely easy, though. Just find a planet with extreme weather, hide in a cave or dig a hole, and wait. I believe it also works in buildings, too, but it doesn’t count if you’re in your ship or a mech.

If you use the Minotaur you don’t even need shields. ;)

They’re way too expensive, but those Xbox Elite controllers are a godsend for this. I bind LS/RS to two of the paddles on the bottom and it’s soooo much more comfortable.

The triggers don’t get in the way of your normal holding of the controller?

No not really. I bumped them accidentally a couple times when I first tried it but I quickly got accustomed to it.

Is there an add-on that will look through the planets you’ve found and filter them via mineral element they have? It is kind of hard to click through solar systems and planets a hundred times to find the right planet to mine.

Perhaps there is a mod for that on the PC, but I don’t know. On PS4, you can click on each system and hover the cursor over each planet, and it will tell you most of what you need to know (basic info including, iirc, minerals). But in order to see special features such as whether the minerals are activated (extreme weather planets activate certain minerals) or not, you have to actually select a given planet to show that.

What are you planning to mine?

I just found this trick last weekend. The community quest in the Anomaly took you to a planet wracked by storms, and you actually had to collect a dozen or so Storm Crystals for the quest. When I realized that was the case, I plopped down my mech platform and spent the next hour juming around and collecting them. When I got full, I teleported them to my Freighter and collected more. I then flew to the space station and renamed the system ‘crystals on planet’ or something like that, so when I need more I could just teleport back there and do it again- apparently no one had visited the space station in that system yet. Wacky.

Nice, @Don_Quixote. Storm crystals are somewhat rare, but only as rare as extreme weather planets. I think I find those in about…20% of the systems I visit? Maybe less. In any case, any time you see a planet on your ship scanner (or in your Discoveries) that lists an activated mineral, there’ll be storm crystals there. Another indication is while walking around on the planet, you get an extreme storm or weather notification. (Has to literally use the word “extreme”.)

I didn’t know that about the Activated Planets! I did know that about extreme storms, etc, but as you say, they’re reasonably rare. I just wanted a way to port back to it if I wanted money/crystals. It turns out you need them to craft some goods to upgrade your Freighter.
