That is very good to know. Had no idea what the activated part meant.

—————————————

So I’m now at the end of the Purge and I’m looking at a gate. I don’t want to wreck my game so could someone tell me what to do or not do so I don’t lose anything?

It says something about resetting the sim in the storyline.

The choice you make (or don’t make) at the end of that mission and other missions pretty much only affects NPC dialog*. No matter what you do, you won’t be locked out of anything.

*And it gives you an opportunity to immediately leave Euclid and travel to a different galaxy at mission completion. Whether you take advantage of that opportunity or not, you will always have the means of traveling to a new galaxy (there are many galaxies, btw) either via another mission or by traveling to the Center, although doing it yourself requires a lot of system-to-system travel, even when using black holes. Also, you will always be able to return to the galaxy you started in via teleporter.

A word of advice on your quest:

As barstein mentioned, you’re at or close to the point to finish that quest line. It sounds all doom and gloom and you’re going to leave the setting entirely, etc, etc. Its just a choice to change galaxy, to be blunt. You can stay in Euclid (the starter galaxy everyone is in) or move to another one and kind of select the type of galaxy. From the wiki: The four options are Lush galaxy (green), Harsh galaxy (red), Empty galaxy (blue) and Normal galaxy (teal).

But of note:

If you change galaxies, that’s your new home. Stuff in your ship and multitool WILL BE DAMAGED during the process. Your suit will be fine. Bring extra parts/ores and whatnot for repairs. Quests will continue there, not in Euclid. That may mean you need to reset a quest. It will also mean that portals and such that you use are bound to the NEW galaxy. Destination codes will be for the galaxy you chose, not Euclid. Your BEST advice is to make sure you have at least one base in Euclid, and hopefully one that is near or at a portal. That way later on if you ever want to bounce around in Euclid, you can use a base teleporter to get to that old base, then the Euclid portal to hop to a destination in Euclid. Beyond that, everything else still works: Anomaly, getting to the end of your NEW galaxy, finding planets, black holes, etc. It’s kind of amazing that the entire game you were playing was just one galaxy. And that there are many more.

Also an edit: I didn’t read up on that quest and chose poorly. I moved on, but randomly picked one and ended up worse off. That isn’t to say the game is harder, just that I warp around a lot more trying to find things. I’m in an “Empty” galaxy type. Everything is seen less overall. Lush planets are really rare. Euclid, the starter galaxy, is considered a, “Normal,” galaxy.

Thanks!

Can I ask why you chose the empty galaxy? For Lush galaxy, does that mean every planet will be lush, or that more planets will be lush vs. normal? I’m thinking I might not go through the portal yet (I left a computer base terminal at the front of it to find it easier), and will do some more stuff here before entering. Also, I haven’t completed the Atlas way yet. Can I still do that quest where you go between all the Atlas markers? Or is that pointless now that I’ve done this thing?

Thanks again for all the help :)

Lush galaxies will have “Light from a Dead Star” playing in the background on every planet

An odd thing, I’ve now come across two planets that say “non-existent fauna” but there are 13 animal species there.

Well, my PS4 may have died again. Blew the dust off the Steam Link and got things going with the PS4 controller no problem. I’m a pleb again! Yay.

LoL welcome back to the rat race. I have 19 hours back into this run. Need to start thinking about making some credits soon.

Why do you think your PS4 died? I would be so upset! Now that you’re on PC however you can use a some mods to make life easier. I’m using:

Fine LOD 241 Lite
Bigger Creature Icons
Speedy Dialogue
Faster Actions (mouse selection)
Quick Crates
Reduced Launch Cost
Starship out of range reducer with faster scanning

Thanks! That’s very helpful. Overall I’m very pleased with how quick and seamless the transition was. The experience is exactly the same. Except for the fact that I may have to fully shut the game down to switch controllers when I think the battery might be getting low.

I don’t know why the thing died, it was very sudden. The SSD was pretty new, and fortunately it’s under warranty, but I had/have few clues as to what happened. Won’t even start in safe mode.

Had a ps2 do the same thing. Had to return it.

I mean, if Safe Mode could actually pinpoint the source of the problem (assuming I could even invoke it, which I can’t), I would be less annoyed. All I can do at this point is pull out the SSD and RMA it and cross my fingers that it was just a bad drive. (And yeah, I tried the disconnecting power for 20 minutes thing that Sony recommends in this situation.)

On the plus side, though, being forced to finally put my Steam Link to real use is opening up a lot of new gaming options. :)

So I got my Void Egg. It seems like the most interesting thing to get with Quicksilver, especially since it has its own quest line.

Yeah, everything else you can buy right now is bling, I think.

That quest takes some patience! Don_Quixote shared some good tips for getting started upthread, but if you’re having trouble finding travelers in stations and minor settlements like I was, you can also unlock the portal glyphs you’ll need by completing the Artemis quest. Also, if you create a manual save near the end of the quest (right after you collect the Traveler souls – the final ingredient for hatching the egg and different from the Traveler graves that unlock portal glyphs – and just before you exit back through a portal), you have an optional means of picking a ship you like the look of, unless you like the first one the game chooses for you. Just keep reloading that save, and the model will be different each time.

Is there some kind of adjacency bonus with where you put your upgrades/items in the inventory? I seem to remember something like that the first month the game came out in 2016, but I only played it briefly then. If so how does it work?

I finished the Atlas Path and am confused.

It said something about making my own star (solar system would go with it I’d assume). I have the Star Seed installed in my inventory. Now what?

Also, I think I may go through the gate and choose lush galaxy (unless there’s some annoyance with lush and you suggest something else). What do I need to take with me since you said everything will get broken? Also, I will be able to go back and visit all my old bases right? And do stuff like normal in my intro galaxy?

Yeah, it’s important. You want to place upgrades in the slots around a given device (e.g. hyperdrive or shield). The upgrades buff not only the stats on the device itself, bit they boost any other upgrades for the same device that are adjacent. Example from the wiki:

Note the color borders: those light up when a bonus is in effect. I would google this for various exosuit, multitool and ship configurations, and be sure it’s from the past nine months or so, as it’s changed a bit over time since release.

Note also that although there is a limit to the number of upgrades for a device that you can have together before they start to overload, you can get around that using the inventory tabs. For example, on my previous save I had a long-distance ship, with three hyperdrive upgrades in the main inventory tab, and another three in the technology tab.

This is somewhat simplified, and there are other details I could share if other questions come up.

You’ll be creating a galaxy. Like Euclid, only with a different name and different pros and cons, as Skipper described in some detail a few posts up. The Star Seed is an exosuit device that, when equipped (main or tech, doesn’t matter), makes it so that you can see black holes in the galactic map, by way of a new icon that appears next to solar systems that contain a black hole. And that’s literally all it does.

Also, I think I may go through the gate and choose lush galaxy (unless there’s some annoyance with lush and you suggest something else). What do I need to take with me since you said everything will get broken? Also, I will be able to go back and visit all my old bases right? And do stuff like normal in my intro galaxy?

Lush is a popular choice (and the one I always make). What you want to do to minimize the temporary setback:

  1. Equip a different multitool (select it on the hotbar). If you only have one, go buy another cheap one, and equip that.
  2. Jump in a ship you don’t care about and won’t care about repairing, and make sure it’s your active one now.
  3. Move as many exosuit technologies into the tech tab. If you have too many, move the ones that are the most expensive to repair (you may need to look them up in the wiki to see what it takes to install/repair them).
  4. Now create a manual save (autosave might be OK) just in case you missed something above.

Why? Any devices in main inventory slots will be broken when you “wake up” in the new galaxy, but the tech slots are protected. And since multitools do not have a second tab, everything in them will be broken

Other than that, you don’t need to bring anything special. Once in the new galaxy, you will always be permitted to teleport to another teleporter you’ve visited or created in the original galaxy, like usual, and then you can come back again. No limits on inter-galaxy travel.

Hope this helps!

That is a tremendous amount of help. I feel confident moving forward now. Thank you!

BTW, what’s the best way to get starship expansion slots? I can’t tell if they can be shot out of fleets in space or if I’ve been getting them via missions.

Freighters in space are best. Go in close and examine freighter and frigate cargo, and shoot just the cargo you want. You’ll probably find freighter salvage modules in frigate cargo more often than in freighter cargo, but your rep with that race will go down slightly for destroying frigates. Getting rep back is easy, though, so that’s what I do.

Don’t bother searching crashed freighters for salvage modules, they’re rare.

You also get them from certain freighter missions, but I forget which ones.

Cool that’s what I’ve been doing.

So far in freighter missions they always max out at 3 stars. Do they go up to 4 and 5? If so, when or how does that happen?

In addition to @jpinard 's list, here is mine. I use Vortex from Nexus mods and it makes this pretty painless. Mine is more cheaty-ish, but my game time is important, I’ve shortened the time for annoying things in play.

Faster Analysis 2.32 - Everything you analyze is quicker
Fast Refiners - So, so helpful. Ever need a ton of glass (or anything refined)? Yeah, you want this mod.
Fast Actions 2.1 - Quicker “circle” selections
Exosolar’s Beyond Base Building - Allows a lot more movement, choice and snapping help to place things in your bases. If you build anything more than shacks, this is a helpful mod
Quick Crates 1.1 - What is says
Speedy Dialogue - Again, what it says
FineLod Ultra - Great for cards that can handle the game
Base Boundary Plus - If you’ve run into the issue with a base boundary, this fixes it
Movements Speed and Jetpack Enhanced - So much nicer than default but literally making you faster and able to jump longer
Exocraft Enhanced Top Speed - If you’re going to use exocraft at all, get this
Technology Number Multiplier - Fixes the issue you let Jeff know about for upgrades. You can have more bonus grouping per item, you pick the amount (I use x6 so six upgrades per “type” can be used)
Living Ship - 3 Hour Timer - Does what it says
