I made this base for the view:

Also found another multi-tool in a euclid station:

Beautiful!

That planet is lovely. The glitches from those are great. I have been:

Working on my freighter parking skills.

How am I doin’?

Exploring Calypso’s Fauna, he’s a big one.

Settling a base on a cold, inhospitable planet. The base is not interesting. The shadow of my freighter on the snow, hovering above for supplies as I built it was.

Where I made a friend near the portal:

The anomaly planets had mega-flora, at night:

Sunrise:

For Scale:

Another planet, similar flora, this is how it looks, no added filters:

And at sunrise, in a storm (to keep storm effects need to use Steams screenshot, so has UI, and yes sentinels are hostile with storms).

Whoa! Way awesome!!!

@Hechicera @barstein @Mr_PeaCH @vyshka @Skipper @Grembel @Don_Quixote

OK… be honest with me, no matter how much it hurts. Did I give birth to an ugly baby? LOL

I’m seeing a beak with some skin flaps attached to it with a thin nerd beard.

Here it is “in action”

I like it! Still working on mine …

Front part of that one looks particularly good. I like the colors and spots.

Though to be fair, when viewed from the rear I think they all look weird.

I really like those colors.

OFF TOPIC POST
Hi there! I recently ended up finding your old blog page and there was one post in particular that showed an image of Minecraft Alpha 1.0.8. It turns out that Alpha 1.0.8 is actually a missing Minecraft version, meaning that it isn’t available anywhere for download and it is lost currently. Do you happen to possibly have a hard drive from 2010? If so, can you check it? Maybe look through your temp files for this version? Or any backups? Try to check it as thoroughly as possible. This is for archival purposes since you could possibly have something that has been thought to have been lost forever. Thanks in advance! (Apologies if my grammar is bad but i hope you know what i mean)

Sorry, but that system is long gone. I forgot I even still had that blog up. 1.0.8 was when cows arrived apparently.

Oh well, if only there was a way to get the hard drive from that system but thanks anyway.

Thanks! Do any of you know how to upgrade this thing?

I like the long, ‘beak’ look more than my rounder look.

To upgrade, fly around in space, pulse engine engaged. You’ll occasionally get an ‘Anomaly detected’ alert, telling you to stop out of pulse warp- it’s my understanding that this happens after flying for more than a minute or other reasonably long time. Occasionally these alerts will be some sort of floating alien creature- an egg like you got your ship from, a space-jellyfish, crystalline structure, etc. Weird shit. Anyway, shoot it. It’ll drop new ‘organs’ for your ship, new upgrades, rated C-S, just like normal upgrades. Install them in the Organ Chamber.

Yes, that means upgrading it is completely random. Random events, random time for them to pop, random types of upgrades, random level of upgrades. Good times.

I’ve read that red systems with no stations are best. Why red, I have no idea, but if there are no stations then the random encounters you get are guaranteed to never be traders.

Wow, that’s great info! I hate those traders.

I upgraded by finding a system where you find an upgrade egg soon after I pulse out of the station. Then I’d return to the station. Exit the ship (to create a save point), reload last autosave and pulse out again.
This way You should have all upgrades soon, with a few spare ones for Your next ship to boot.

I knew of four ways to gain access to new galaxies, and then yesterday I saw a fifth way confirmed that I actually knew about already but wasn’t sure if it would work. There’s a rare RNG POI the game sometimes spawns on a planet, which is simply an unclaimed base computer sitting in a roundish, flat area. I’ve found a few myself. You can claim them just like normal base computers you put down, except they’re generated by the game. I’d been wondering what would happen if you found one and tried to claim it while portal traveling, but I’ve never had an opoortunity to test it. Now someone has, and it works. You can find these listed on the Coordinate Exchange subreddit, and use one as a shortcut to establishing yourself somewhere else in the galaxy you’re in, including near the Center if that’s where one was found.

Then an hour or so after I saw the buzz about the above, I saw a squid exotic parked at the Anomaly and I wondered where I might end up if I used the teleporter there to go to that guy’s base. When I arrived, I found that I was still in Euclid, but only 3k LY from the Center. Cool. So I started scouting for my own planet in that area to create a foothold there, and within just a few minutes I stumbled across one of those unclaimed base computers. So theoretically, I could give that portal address (and coordinates) to someone else if I wanted to, and they could use that to hop to the Center. Neat little easter egg.

Very cool info!

Also congrats @jpinard on your new living ship! I think it’s pretty rad looking, but then again, rad was a cool phrase when I was growing up. :)

My kids: That’s Sick!
Me, looks at ship: Well, it is kind of green-ish.
Kids: .<. roll eyes .>.

Oh, and they are both around 30.

I like the camo look on the window for sure! nice work.
