Thanks! Just a normal frozen planet. It’s hard to tell due to the blueish tint but it’s actually snow on the ground which is what it makes feel so cozy inside. Just needs a wood stove…
I get that. My near perma-stormed snow base has that feel. I do wish we had more decorations.
This game can throw some relaxing scenery. Here is a ringed planet in the background from an airless moon. No base, was just logging it.
@jpinard I finally hatched my ugly baby. Looks like yours in frame but the color is a uniform tan/flesh color. At least when I found it. Is yours a … chameleon?
It is almost like the metallic explorers, mirrors back the local lighting.
I’ll take a look next time I’m in! I’ve been trying to drag my stupid body along to get some things done outside and it’s wiped me out each day.
Oh, I get stupid body too. I just got dinged for being good at doing the exercises I have from physical therapy but totally ignoring the restrictions to activity they added. Hmm, well technically that’s just me being plain stupid, I guess.

Apparently Hello Games has an ambitious new project they are working on. Hoping for a sequel that builds on what they accomplished with No Man’s Sky.
Wouldn’t it be great if they beat Star Citizen to Star Citizen?
Just finished a permadeath run to the center, used the quest line. Do not think I will continue the save, as it has two bugs already.
But, since I got a living ship in that save, I can now answer my own question about my survival mode ship.
IT IS A CHAMELEON!
So, like explorer’s have “mirrored” metal that changes, I guess living ships have a “color” that changes in the environment.
Boring tan/flesh in the info screen.
And it does look that way in some planets, mostly home system:

Those are all the same ship. My other one is very consistent color, esp in the cockpit. So it is a wierdo.

Doesn’t look like mine in shape. And I’ve only heard one other mention of a chameleon colored one. All my pics above are of just one ship.

Mine is a chameleon as well showed up purple on the planet i got it from then went white ish on my freighter. Haven’t flown it around enough to other planets to see what else it like to look like.
Thank you @Grembel. When I first suspected it, I wondered if it wasn’t me playing while sleepy and just my imagination. So, now up to three reports that “chameleon” really is a possible color.
What does your look like in the stats/storage info screen?
((I’m wondering how to identify them in a new save. Was in Survival for one family member, but he is ducking out and ship is in that save. Need to start a Normal save file to play with a second family member who won’t play Survival (and first one wouldn’t play Normal). Family! Whatcha you gonna do?))
@jpinard Wonderful! My son has our gardens well underway. Been eating blueberries and strawberries from them already, and he makes lemon/mint tea with the mint. First tomatoes soon!
If you feel like it, you could also play RNG roulette with a save, @Hechicera, but you’ve probably thought of that. The save would be just after you’ve collected all the traveler souls and before you portal back home. (Different ship each load.)
@barstein Yep, I’d read how to do that. Thanks. The problem for me is how to identify the chameleon color before I take it and fly it to various systems. So I’d love storage/info screens of others to see if they look alike in that screen.
It seems ships are consistent in spawn location.I lucked into it as the very first egg, ever, and my very first location. It was Survival and in Calypso, so not likely I can get to that early in a Normal save!
True enough. The portal/habitable base method could work early on, but of course you would need the glyphs, so early-ish I guess. Or the Anomaly slot machine, you never know what you might find there. Even with the smaller player population in Survival, I’ve been pretty lucky using it. Last easy-ish method would would be taxi/huber.
