My 9 and 11 year old couldn’t hang with survival mode but my 13 year old and I had a lot of fun. Everyone like creative, but the lack of objectives bored me.

Yeah… pretty sure that’s what would happen here.

This actually used to exist more in earlier patches, but was heavily toned down due to the unpredictability of the environments.
The so-called superformula, if the rumors about them planning to use it (now that the patent is expired) are true, could theoretically alleviate some of that procgen monotony.
Is that a thing? I know they’d at one point run into possible issues regarding the procgen math. Which is quite ridiculous really, but I’d be curious if they are able to use it now would it still be worth bothering?
Regardless, I’ll just continue to be pleasantly surprised every time they drop yet another cool and unexpected update.
Yeah, they aren’t scary. But do you know what’s fun? Finding a random egg on a desolate world, harvesting it, then jumping back in your buggy and doing donuts, slaughtering the waves of xenos that pop up.
As a new player I haven’t got round to building a buggy yet - but now I will have to ASAP!
Fair warning, if you’re killing them for a mission (Nexus, for example), you don’t get credit for doing it this way. :(
Also. For maximum utility, upgrade each vehicle with at least one S-Class Engine and Boost module. They feel a bit slow (except maybe the Nomad) and run out of boost quickly if you don’t. I usually check at every Space Station Vehicle Upgrade kiosk until I find one that sells them, then immediately rename that station (name+SEngMod, for example) ,so I can just teleport back there any time I want more. And I always want more.
Thanks
So you can rename space stations as well? That could be useful. There’s a lot I don’t know yet…
Yeah, go to the Discoveries tab in the non-inventory menu. Not sure what system you’re on, but if you highlight the name of the system, you’ll find a way to rename it (I think you can rename flora, fauna, and rocks, too? Maybe not). The name of the Station is the name of the system. You can only rename them until they’ve been uploaded to the main game server- the first person who uploads takes precedence. So if you’re playing co-op with a friend, and you both ‘discover’ a new system at the same time, only the first person to upload it gets naming rights (both played still get Nanites for their discoveries, though). Also means you can’t rename something someone else uploaded days, months or weeks before. But it’s a big Galaxy with billions of systems. That rarely happens.
How do the combat improvements feel?
I won’t have a chance to fire it up for a few hours yet.
Desolation doesn’t come out until later this month. I don’t think I saw a date in the trailer.
Oh thanks, I thought it was out now! Ah well.

Its out now? That was the giant patch last night.
The PSblog article I linked said “later this month”. It was updated today. Firing it up now…

Last nigth for me - But yeah. Its out.
All the blog says is ‘this month’, not ‘later this month’. As in, last month we added A, this month we’re adding B.
Holy shit, you’re right. Full info about the update here:
So many cool things in here,so much for upgrading your Freighter- inventory, color schemes, storage enhancement, etc. Special things to enhance your freighter that you find on Derelicts. Goddamn, I love how they just drop this stuff now with no warning.
EDIT: YOU CAN BUILD A TELEPORTER ON YOUR FREIGHTER NOW.
Just found my first derelict freighter and…
it’s basically like a procedural rogue-lite dungeon. I don’t want to spoil too much but a few tips:
- make sure you have Thermal Protection installed on our ExoSuit and Ion batteries/Dioxite to recharge it. It’s FREEZING in these ships and there’s no life support at all but there are random heaters to activate and warm up if necessary. But the design is random and I couldn’t find a heater deeper inside and had to vacate before completing
- save before you head out to find the ship (you cannot save once you land on the freighter)
- do not leave before completing the mission … I made this mistake and could not relocate it. I left some areas unexplored (there is a finite number and it keeps track while you explore)
- if it’s infested, just shoot the nests and fight the swarm… use Plasma nades … instead of trying to be stealthy
- it’s expensive to buy the signal locator and you will NOT recoup the cost but you will find some nice tech upgrades for your own freighters
Thanks for the tips! I found the kiosk to buy one last night right before I logged off - $5 million for a ticket to that ride! Good thing I’ve got $120+ in the bank, heh. I did buy one, and then started going through my teleporter network until I found a station selling S-Class (basic) shooter upgrades. Bought a couple and installed them, but didn’t even consider the temperature thing.
