The trailer, which does indeed look glorious.

That trailer is amazing. I can’t imagine how much effort they’ve put into upgrading the experience - potentially more effort than some developers going to a sequel.

Looks fantastic! I’m only running it at 1080P, I hope it looks better for me also.

That looks fucking sweet. I am going to download that first on the Series X and play it while AssCreed Vikings downloads in the background.

As someone who has a pre-order in for an XSX, I endorse this behavior.

I love the trailers HG makes.

Wow. This sounds like they’ve improved and added a lot since I last played about a year ago (Beyond update). I am between major games at the moment, I may have to revisit this!

When I got back into it recently I made a summary of what each patch added (so I could make sure to see everything!). Since the Beyond patch (chronologically bottom to top):

Origins 3.0

new planets, binary and ternary stars
more planet diversity
weather
improved teleporters
wild robots
sandworms

Desolation 2.6

derelict freighters
freighter customization
freighter inventory management
new nexus missions

Crossplay 2.5

cross platform MP

Exo Mech 2.4

added Exo Mechs
Minotaur Exomech
can summon from freighter
can hide electrical wires in a base

Living Ship 2.3

added Living Ships
Living Ship mission chain, Starbirth

Synthesis 2.2

QOL/polish
expand ship inventory/class at Starship Outfitting Terminal
salvage ships
terrain editing improvements

Add to that list (not sure where it was added): expandable Multi-Tool Slots! My brother fired this up yesterday after I told him about the Halloween decorations, and noticed this was a thing at the Multi-Tool vendors on Space Stations.

Good catch. I think that was added in Origins (but am not sure). FYI you can get multi tool expansion slots for free by doing the ‘secure site’ map things and breaking into manufacturing buildings (and getting the question correct, of course).

Also might add easier intergalactic travel (activated teleporters in new galaxies appear in teleporter list.) Unless that’s what you meant by “improved teleporters”.

Aaaand they’re making next-gen upgrade free?

Yep.

Announcing…No Man’s Sky Next Generation. A PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S upgrade, free for existing owners.

Reinstalled and played a bit last night. Took me a bit to adjust back to the UI, but I was happy to see there weren’t any major changes to basic gameplay and all of my inventory still seems to be valid and useful (there was an update a long time ago that changed everything in regards to inventory and items, which was a nightmare for returning players).

Seems that when I last exited the game I was in an abandoned system with a creepy derelict space station and 4 not very hospitable planets. Not sure what I was doing there, but it wasn’t the best place to check out new game features and whatnot, so I looted what I could from the station and jumped to a more lively system. I chatted with the salvage trader, read several new entries in the journal (introducing new game mechanics) and wandered around the station. It’s pretty cool that you can now upgrade your tool, ship and suit at the various workbenches. Looks like I’m good though, with an S-Class hauler fully kitted out and S-Class multi-tool that’s pushing the max assuming I’m reading the screens correctly.

I think I need to find a nexus again, as I suspect most of the new content launches from there. The salvage entry in the journal said I can get a freebie set of salvage coordinates there as well (5 mil.units otherwise). I’d also like to play around with the overhauled scanning/discovery system too, as it looks cool, but I need a system with decent planets for that. I have a nice freighter already, but I’d like to find a system with a good planet to build a base on and call home, as I never really got very far into base building (did all the plant quests, built a ton of storage, but stopped at the Exocraft quest).

I’ll have to poke around the internet and see if it’s become any easier to recognize systems that may contain good base planets since Beyond. I’m pretty sure that is what I was doing a year ago, wandering around investigating interesting looking systems hoping to find a home.

They added a new type of planet called a Paradise planet which shows up when you scan it from space. Those planets are pretty much unbeatable as far as a benign pleasant environment in which to build.

There are lots of other descriptors which sound good (overgrown, verdant) but will have extreme weather now and then.

Just in case anyone didn’t know, you can expand your exosuit inventory twice in each zone. Once by going to the vending cabinet to the left of the EXO suit mod guy in the space station, and secondly by summoning the space anomaly and going to the place where you purchase plans… There is a cabinet in the rear left of that area from which you can purchase another slot.

You summon nexus now. In space, hit the menu, and it should be one of the options.

It pops right in. You can do this over and over in any system.

If this is not what you’re talking about, if you have enough money you can also buy navigation points for the inventory upgrades from the minor settlements or the big bases, and use the signal booster. I thought I had my suit maxed out but then realized I had a whole different tab to store ‘cargo’. I keep well stocked in sodium nitrate, chromatic metal, and antimatter so when I get to the pod, I already have the mats

One thing that grates is overpowering my jet pack with too many mods installed in one tab ‘general’. Then installing a few more in the ‘technology’ tab.

I think Paradise planets have been around for a while. At least, there have been planets and moons labeled as such since launch. But maybe you’re referring to new attributes (I haven’t played in a few months). And unless things have changed recently, before you take the time to put roots down on one, you probably want to evaluate local weather patterns and wildlife friendliness first.

I started the game 88 hours ago and the 1st system where I started has a paradise planet, where I built my shabby base, which I effing hate. I’m trying to find a new planet to make a new and better base. It’s just busy work with no real incentive or goal.
