For the benefit of those who haven’t played in a million years, what is an exocraft? A summonable vehicle of some kind?

Yup, exactly that. There are various kinds, from small cars to bikes to submarines and even a mecha.

If you’re doing the current Expedition, be sure to start your game with multiplayer turned off. With multiplayer enabled I wasn’t able to build my first base because another player already did so near the starting location. I’ve also seen posts on the Steam forum about users running into maximum number of geobay limit per planet messages which prevents them from meeting a goal of building the Minotaur geobay.

You just need to build your base far enough away from the other players. Workaround for the geobay limit right now is apparently to build it outside your base radius.

Anyone having performance issues. Since the last patch my performance has tanked, even at 1920 standard setting and vsync at 60 and frame rate stutters, drops to 15 fps etc. Really frustrating and almost unplayable.

Playing on an Omen 17 with a 2070 card.

Any thoughts?

Yep I’m getting stutters quite often which is annoying. It’s always been smooth as poo before now.

Also, I tried to start the new expedition but the main menu said I’d already done it (I haven’t) and didn’t give me the option.

No problems here using an NVIDIA 2080 + 3060. You could perhaps try enabling DLSS and see if that helps. Its listed under Anti Aliasing in the graphics options.

You’re using two dissimilar video cards at the same time?

Ah no, 2 separate systems laughs.

oh hehe

Thanks, tried with and without, also in 1920 and 2560 res, seems to make very little difference. Before the patch it ran at around 80 fps with everything high.

Just tried a reinstall but no difference, i found a post on the no man’s sky site which suggests deleting 2 files but on my system they did not exist at all either

Hello games Support - Section 4

Perhaps some kind of problem with your save or the planet you are on?
Have you tried creating a new game in a spare save slot? (just for testing)

Nope, that’s a great idea, I shall try it

If you’re using Experimental, the latest update is a bit of a mess. Lots of people (including myself) are getting frequent crashes. Performance also seemed worse.

I rolled it back, so it no longer crashes but now I have all the bugs again, like being awarded Minotaur milestone without actually doing it! :D

I’m wondering if I should restart and try this Expedition thing. I last played about two years ago, and I only have 15 hours into it. I did enjoy it – I just got distracted by something else. I had just discovered an orbital facility with NPCs and such. I assume that means I didn’t get very far into the game. Anyway, if I restart with an Expedition, will I get a tutorial to help me remember how to play?

I’ve never done any of the Twitch drops until today. The A-Class Hauler that was given away today is like a straight-up cheat code. Once you claim it at the Anomaly base, it vastly outperforms any ship you’d have at that point.

I assumed all that Twitch stuff was cosmetic only. Guess I was wrong.

/me runs to turn on a nms stream

It looks like there is an a class ship available every day. Day 4 is an explorer, and Day 5 is a fighter.

I started playing NMS again a short while ago after not having played since the infamous launch, so these twitch rewards came at a perfect time for me.

I now have an A class Shuttle, Fighter, and Hauler parked in my freighter. With the remaining streams + the living ship from an egg some random player gifted me when I was in the Anomaly, I’ll hit the 6 spaceship limit :-)

I don’t think it teaches you the controls again, you could start a new ‘normal’ game and play for a half hour to get that though.

It’s very milestone-driven, so you always have an explicit objective to work on. All milestones are shown along with their rewards, and looking in the list you can see how those rewards could help with your current task, so you have more stuff to work towards.

The thing is though, I think all that does assume some familiarity with the game, which it doesn’t re-teach. I’m not sure. It does hold your hand a lot, and the in-game Catalogue is an essential reference.

I think it’s worth a shot, it’s pretty cool (once these new crashes get fixed), and worst comes to worst, people in here are helpful. :)

Wow, this is what I love about NMS - you’re gone for a year and when you get back, there’s loads of new stuff.
Can be a bit overwhelming too of course, but I’m gonna have to check it out anyways.
