If anyone missed the earlier expeditions and you’re playing on PC here is how you can cheat to receive all the rewards. I am not responsible if you break your stuff! :)
NB: This will give you all the rewards from all 3 expeditions.

  1. Take a backup of your saves folder located in %APPDATA%\HelloGames\NMS\
  2. Launch the game so it’s at the main menu but don’t load any of your saves
  3. Alt-tab and while the game is still running find a file named accountdata.hg. It will be somewhere in your save folder e.g. %APPDATA%\HelloGames\NMS\<some random text>
  4. Open the file accountdata.hg in your favorite text editor (I recommend Sublime Text)
  5. Search for the string D4U and replace the text in between the square brackets [...] with the following text:
    "^BASE_CAVE1","^BLD_EXPD_BASE01","^BASE_CAVE2","^EXPD_FIREPACK01","^BASE_CAVE3","^EXPD_BACKPACK01","^BASE_CAVE4","^MYSTERY_TRACKER","^BLD_PLANET_HOLO","^BASE_CAVE5","^BLD_FLYJAR","^EXPD_BANNER01","^EXPD_BANNER02","^EXPD_BANNER03","^EXPD_DECAL01","^EXPD_DECAL02","^EXPD_DECAL03","^EXPD_EGG_03","^EXPD_TITLE02B","^EXPD_HELMET01","^EXPD_SHIP01","^EXPD_SPEC02","^EXPD_TITLE01","^EXPD_TITLE02A","^EXPD_TITLE03","^JETS_BUBBLE"
  6. Now quit the game and launch it again - this step is important.
  7. Visit the vendor in the Anomaly to receive all your goodies

This is how it should look once you’ve edited the file:

Nice. Can you use the same methods for the twitch rewards?

I think the Twitch rewards have a server side check but it might work if you disconnect your Internet, edit the file, claim the rewards and then re-enable Internet. I’ve not tried it though. I’ve only tested the expedition ones.

Did they change the control layout for gamepads? The controls for my xbox controller seem to be all screwed up.

Mine seems fine, wish I could help.

The expedition is an exercise in frustration.

Maybe it is something with my save. I’ll have to try a new game and see. It has strange things like in the menu screen LB moves through tabs one way, but RB doesn’t do the other and odd things like neither trigger firing the weapon/tool.

Ok, I completed the expedition or at least made it to the final portal thingy. Am I supposed to enter glyphs to return to my normal game with the goodies I collected from the expedition?

I’m reasonably sure you can claim expedition rewards on any save from the quicksilver vendor.

Also you can just wait for the end of the expedition and your save will convert to a normal one.

If you’ve claimed any rewards and you don’t want to ever risk losing them somehow, be sure to back up your Settings folder, just in case.

Finished Expedition 3. I um. I think ahhh. It’s a thing you can do. I might use it as a new save when the expedition is over, just because of the ship parts. I’m not sure if they’re available elsewhere.

Oh, right, that tech is and will probably remain unique. Neat idea.

So are you saying you didn’t really enjoy it or what? I got the impression it’s a little diversion they are injecting now and then to give people a bit of variety. Totally optional of course so if they aren’t fun I expect people won’t do them.

It wasn’t fun. You can’t play it with MP disabled to start, and they put everyone on the same planet.

Step one, build a base computer.

Step two, build an Exocraft (limit 5 per planet).

Wasn’t very well thought out, imo.

Hmm…I have played it with MP disabled. I was also getting the warning about the exocraft limit, was able to build the platforms away from my base.

I found someone else’s and it let me use it, counted as milestones. Don’t ask questions, I didn’t.

It was a lot of fun. :)

I’m almost done with phase 3 and I don’t want it to end. I wonder how long until expedition 4…

You can disable multiplayer right off the bat, which should mitigate most/all of the usual issues. You just can’t start new saves with that option already turned off, unfortunately.

And yeah, I had a great time in the first Expedition, enjoyed the second less (mostly because of the shorter duration), and didn’t enjoy #3 much at all. By the time I was working on my last milestone (Industrialist), I was cutting every corner I could think of just to be done with it.

Love the new construction pieces, mostly appreciating the new building system, and I think the Settlement stuff is a much better fit than I was expecting back when it started to become clear that was what was coming. It does still feel pretty shallow, but that’s consistent with other features, IMO, and not much of a surprise. I would love to see them expand it, deepen it, and make it a more fundamental part of most gameplay, but I don’t have high hopes that any of that will happen, as it would probably be at odds with HG’s design philosophy. If they at least made more decisions have actual tangible consequences, that would be very welcome.

Also, this game really deserves a full-blown sandbox mode, I feel. I have fun devising different scenarios on my own, but I would be overjoyed to see HG open up more options and levels of control.

I’ll just stop posting opinions here. Sorry about that, then.

I don’t understand. What’s wrong with Profanicus enjoying it more than you and I did? It should be OK to enjoy something that others don’t, right? I don’t think anyone was calling you out or anything.

They were helping you? Your first major complaint was that it wasn’t fun - primarily because you couldn’t start with MP disabled. They were merely letting you know what this wasn’t quite accurate, and future expeditions might be more fun now that you have the tools you need to mitigate your primary complaint…

And just providing their own opinion, of course.
