It starts now!

Woohoo! But… the same day Elden Ring launches. :|

It lasts for 5 weeks, so it should be possible to sort out some first world problems before it ends.

Woohoo! - I know what I’m doing this weekend.

Oh cool, 5 weeks is a good amount of time to get bored with the new mistress and come back to old faithful!

Might be a good idea to start an Expedition save now, and then just save the game and come back later when you have time. That way you won’t get locked out when it shuts down ~24 hours before the window officially closes.

Good idea!

Started Expedition 5 over the weekend and am kind of disappointed that the objectives don’t seem to contain any of the new Sentinel content. Am I just confused about release dates and Sentinel update stuff isn’t live yet?

It is a little odd, I agree. But the Sentinel content is definitely there. Just not tied to the Expedition in any way.

Today is the last day of Expedition 5.

I just finished it. Probably my least faviourite expedition so far. Some parts were just too annoying - I’m especially thinking of searching 50 dung samples and completing 16 expedition missions. Rewards were not very interesting either.

I agree on the least favorite one. I ended up not bothering to finish. Got up to the backpack and a few missions complete in the final leg, but just couldn’t convince myself to finish.

I finished it as well and agree that it was the most vanilla and repetitive Expedition thus far. Scouring the universe for three kinds of milk and three kinds of eggs and then baking a cake…yawn.

The poop milestone was kind of funny, and easy enough to knock out if you loaded up on creature pellets before heading out to do the “take a picture with at least 10 creatures in it” milestone. I found a planet teeming with critters, took my picture, then fed about 30 various little guys, who then proceeded to chase me around hoping for another handout and pooping, which make “collection” easy. LOL.

I think the Explorers Guild one was bugged for me. The station agents only ever seemed to have “Kill 16 creatures” and “Kill 3 sentinels” quests no matter how many times I completed them. When I did see a different quest appear, it was always one that required 4/5/6 reputation with the Explorers Guild, and it wouldn’t let me take it even after completing enough missions to have the required rank. In the end I ran round to 4 space stations, collected 4 “kill creatures” and “kill sentinels” quests, and landed on a planet with lots of water creatures who were easy to one-shot and swam around in groups of 3-5. Couple of those runs and it was done.

The final reward of a sentinel quad egg/pet is pretty nice. I don’t really summon my pets very often, but maybe I will more now that I have a robot good boy.

I hope they wait a bit before the next expedition, as I just loaded up Mass Effect Legendary Edition and got sucked into that over the weekend. See you all in a couple months! =)

Another free update. Now heroes can wear capes!

Are those new ship types? I have to admit, finding and owning cool ships is a big part of the fun I have with this game.

Yup. New ships.

Solar Ships are a new high-tech starship class, with a full and diverse range of procedurally-generated variations . These versatile and efficient long-range travellers come with their own unique technologies , and can be found all across the universe.

I haven’t played NMS for a long loooong time. I think the last I dabbled was when they added VR, and that was just for maybe one play session. So I’m really out of touch with the current state of the game.

That being said, how is the game outside of sightseeing procedurally generated planets these days? Is it still mostly that, or is there a lot of game outside that now?

Will, it’s pretty much the same core game loop. But they’ve layered a lot of wacky stuff on top of that. I don’t remember what was pre- or post-VR, but they’ve added freighter building, recruiting and maintaining fleets, settlement building/managing, space dungeons, taming/riding creatures, mechs, underwater stuff, living ships, etc. (a ton more, but these are the highlights). It all builds off the original systems, though, so if you’re bored with that, I’m not sure it’d hold your interest.

Thanks!

A list of some of the changes

Cloth simulation… FINALLY!!! So tired of the cloth in the game not being cloth like.

Awww man, nearly every time I visit this thread I want to drop everything else and play more NMS instead! :D
