They are available for every playthrough. Even for expeditions.
The bonus for putting related tech upgrades next to each other is still there as before.
The supercharged slots is just a separate mechanic that boosts the value of the tech upgrade slotted into it.
So now it is even more of a puzzle to slot the tech upgrades optimally :-)

Here’s what we sometimes share over on the NMS Discord (not mine):

Thanks, and to you too @NI1 .
Do the same principles apply for the ship and freighter inventories?

I understand the various letter classes but not “capital” vs “other”. What types exist and how do you differentiate between them?

Taken from the wiki. You can find C-S classes for each of the two types.
They also look differently:
System freighter = Normal freighter

The word “capital” is used in two contexts. In one, it refers to any freighter that is the capital (lower case c) of a fleet of other freighters, which you’ll see out in the wild while pulsing through systems (it’s the one freighter that you can land on, iirc). In the other context the word is used to describe the two big models, Venator and Sentinel, which you can only encounter during the warp-in rescue event. Those are Capitals, with an upper case C.

Yes. Pretty much the same for all inventories.
Are the beam of light things you are seeing save beacons? I haven’t logged in since the update but I remember that they have a light. Otherwise there is the ability to place a “destination” marker via the scanner but I never use them so I have forgotten when they look like.
It wasn’t one of those save points on the ground near a structure, because those have been there from the beginning. Maybe it’s this “destination” or rally marker you mentioned and I inadvertently placed one while futzing with the controls.
Sounds like a Custom Marker.
Yep, it was.
BTW, in picking up my Twitch drops at the anomaly I appear to have swapped out my very nice multitool (rifle type). I thought I’d chosen to add the new one to my collection but when I went to use it all I had on hand was the new one, not as good (pistol type). Am I screwed? Where would I access it if it were still available? Can’t seem to figure that out.
You can switch between owned multitools in the Quick Menu. I think you can own up to 12 now.
Thanks for the real name of those things.
Thanks, it was late when I wrote that and I was freaking out a bit. I looked it up later and I’m sure it’s there.
BTW, those custom markers are only visible within a certain range, right? Or can I place one at some random spot on a planet, leave the area (or the planet) and expect to make it back to that exact spot later? The trick back near PC launch for that purpose was to take a screenshot while using the scanner: that way you’d have the coordinates.

Thanks, that was very helpful!
Okay am I just missing something dumb, or do base building controls map two different things to L1 (on PlayStation) at the same time?
Why is that mapped to cycle part and one of the rotation directions?
Visible from anywhere in the system, iirc. They persist until you reload a save, or teleport/warp. (Note that when you do any of those things, you can still see them when up close, but won’t be able to see them from further away.)
That is a known bug that has supposedly been fixed in the Steam experimental branch.
Thanks for the info about custom markers.
Now I wish I knew what was happening to some of the stuff that it says I’m mining, like oxygen. I look in my exosuit inventory and it’s just not there. I do notice though that it says “teleportation is enabled” or something which I’m guessing means it’s going to my starship directly and being added to a stack there.
By mining, do you mean the Oxygen Harvester?

Those require babysitting, unfortunately (unless that’s changed). Otherwise like the AMU and refiners, they tend to empty themselves out while unattended.
