No need to apologize for that because you didn’t.

PC Gamer tried to interview Murray after his GDC talk. No dice.

I approached Murray after his talk but he politely declined my offer of an interview. I asked if he ever planned to talk to the media again, and he said “I’m sure, I’m sure, when there’s something interesting to say.” Even though he had just spent an hour saying interesting things, and despite my assurance that I had some interesting questions for him, he wasn’t swayed.

“I think loads has been written about the game,” Murray told me, “so I think in terms of us chatting, when I think there’s something new to add, when the time is right, I think we’ll do a bunch of press then and we’ll make sure to be in touch.”
He did say this during the GDC presentation:
While working on his engine was initially a pleasant hobby for Murray, things changed drastically for Hello Games’ small team when the public got their first look at No Man’s Sky.

“And that was fun, that was really fun, and a really fun period in my life where every evening and weekend, I was coming home from coding all day and I would write my little engine, and it was really fun.

“Then we showed it, we showed the first trailer, and from then on it was like, it was like we were building a rocketship on the way up, like, to the sun, being fired into the sun with the skin burning from our faces, right? It was like, it was a bit of a rollercoaster ride from then on. But at the start it was genuinely just a hobby and something super enjoyable.”
Hey, speak of the devil!

Hello,

This week Hello Games will be releasing the next content update for No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it the Path Finder Update; it introduces a new vehicle that will aid home planet exploration, building on the Foundation Update to hint at a path ahead for the future.

Detailed patch notes will be released when the update goes live.

Shortly after we launched the Foundation Update, we released a number of patches to address issues reported by players before beginning work on the Path Finder update. We were surprised and excited by the response to Foundation, and we have been listening carefully to community feedback since then.

To those of you who have spent time sharing feedback, whether positive or negative, we are listening.

This is the next step in our journey. It shows the path forward. We hope you’ll join us.

Thank you,
Hello Games
Oh cool. Looking forward to that.

Update detailed info:

I’m not sure if it’s out on Steam already, but it probably is.

Wow. I love the hanger stuff, plus multiplayer content sharing!

I always enjoyed NMS but the attitude from Hello games the past few months in the face of fairly universal criticism has been impressive.

Good job!

These all sound like really good additions and changes.

That is a great list of changes. On the base sharing stuff, they specifically mention steam workshop. I wonder if that means that there’s no base sharing on PS4?

The update has been released! And it looks pretty snazzy.

Sweet, going to try it out this weekend I think. See if I can make a dent in survival mode this time, which they’ve apparently made even harder… :P

Not sure how it works, but they did say there is base sharing on ps4.

Photo mode is the devil that will keep me far too busy this weekend.

It’s good that these are free updates and not paid DLC or part of a “season pass”. Should go a long way to creating good will among those of us who paid $60 for this game. It’s shaping up nicely with all these added features.

I played around with it for a bit. Its certainly looking better and such a novelty being able to fly closer to the ground as well. Then I landed and the first thing I encountered was animal with a bull’s head, a bulky body with a shell and a 2 pin legs. It looked ridiculous, illusion shattered so I quit.

I actually like those bizarre animals. But then again, I was a genetic engineer at one time.

Well, it’s decided . I played the game on a rental, but I’ll buy a copy when I get more time. I really applaud their efforts.

I’m pretty lost with this base building stuff. Not even sure what buttons to push to select the option to start building bases. It’s pretty hidden, no obvious menus.

The game is still in beta. I am sure they will add tutorials soon…

It feels like this should’ve been an early access game. Kudos to the developers for working on it and driving forward even after launch and the crazy blowout reactions, but this should not have been released as a 1.0 final retail product.

I suspect Sony had something to do with that since they didn’t have an “early access” type program on their console.

Wasn’t the sequence of events that they got flooded out by historic rain in England and lost a ton of work / threatened to fold, and then Sony stepped in with a sack of cash to rescue them, or am i misremembering? It seems like the Sony thing was a necessary evil for them at the time.

So, I hopped back in with all these interesting changes, and thought I would give Survival mode a try. Is it just me or is this a complete not fun slog? After 5 hours I was able to get off the planet, but resources are so scarce, and you go through them so fast I spend 95% of the time just keeping my shield and life support filled. Forward progress is minuscule. At this rate I will never see the cool new features, because it will take about 400 hours of blasting carbon and iron to get that far…
