Obamacare is the law of the land

I would support a mixed model of some kind. The closed networks systems, like Kaiser uses, is pretty efficient. I’ve worked with some of them in the past. They use similar software to what we use. HMOs tend to be fairly efficient closed networks, but the gatekeeper model got slammed in the 90s when people start getting denials to specialists and procedures they wanted. A sort of closed gatekeeper system would be a good start for whatever we call basic coverage, leaving individuals or employers to offer more. I still think we need it out of the employer hands though. A lot of people just don’t stay at the same place for decades anymore. They shouldn’t have to change insurance for job moves or because they’re employer wants something different.

Lololol

Exactly. The $10k health care costs $10k while if it was $10k in wages there would be payroll and workers comp on top of the $10k.

Also, some groups get discounts over individual policies so giving you that $10k to buy insurance may not buy an equal product on the individual market.

Also, there is the employee wage taxes that employers pay on your wages, which they don’t have to pay for healthcare benefits.

Yea, that’s what I meant when I said “payroll and workers comp on top of the $10k”. Payroll taxes for the Feds would be 7.65%, and workers comp could be another percent or two, or more depending on the type of work the employee does. My carpenters cost me an additional $.18 on the dollar for workers comp.

Oh, is failure to deliver on promises the criteria we are using now?

So, god help me, this is one of those rare times when I almost agree with him.

After years of wanting to repeal Obamacare, once they actually had a majority in Congress AND a Republican President, they still couldn’t get it done.

To me it’s pretty clear everyone in the GOP was willing to vote on repeal when they knew Obama would just veto it.

Of course, that’s all true. What we’re all scratching our heads about is why Trump is actively alienating one of his most important allies in Congress. But this is kinda just what he does. He thinks everyone wants his favor, so by denigrating someone on Twitter he thinks that motivates them to try to win back his love.

When you have all the money and the power, that probably works. But Mitch McConnell doesn’t need Trump.

This is definitely true. All McConnell requires is the sacrifice of 10,000 souls of white pre-teen non-lesbian girls per day in order to maintain his tentative grasp on this world.

This reply is positively Penbladian in its snark!

On the topic of Mitch McConnell, we are all Armando.

It’s because he’s dumb.

I’ve cracked the code, folks.

I like the windswept armando better than the vaguely frightened, even if perhaps vaguely frightened is better suited to our times.

BBWSA
(Bring back windswept armando)

Agreed. Windswept Armando was all like:
“My name is Armando Penblade. You killed my country. Prepare to die.”

Also Armando would totally have an AK47, like the commie he is.

I have absolutely no idea what firearm is featured in the picture above.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate and fear guns?

Looks like an M16 with an underbarrel shotgun?

Looks like 'Murica to me.
