This is the central fact of our modern political existence, upon which all else depends. I don’t think it’s solvable either. (I can imagine what your solution would be, but re-Neducation camps aren’t everyone’s cup of tea :)

I dunno, at some point I think the GOP is gonna have a hard time explaining why premiums go up for these folks in red states, who didn’t expand medicaid, and thus have to pay their own premiums.

Cause those are the folks who are going to get fucked my this most. Since the medicaid stuff stays, the Federal governent is gonna end up picking up the majority of the cost for a lot of these folks.

I will disagree vehemently with that.

This process has played out over a long enough period of time that the Republicans are going to have to own this, one way or another.

You’re probably right in terms of the main stream media narrative and what people who actually think about this stuff have to say. I just wonder how much that matters in this age of Breitbart etc who just trumpet whatever the hell they feel like saying, and a good chunk of the country simply nods along.

WH tried to bluff and intimidate another person, and failed dismally, again.

Ya, I gotta think this too.
It’s very hard to believe that they are going to be able to say that after controlling congress and the presidency for 6 months, and passing what they are calling an Obamacare fix… that they won’t own what comes next.

I too think that time or karma or justice will eventually swing back to catch up with everyone, Republicans included. Some historians call this the Great Swinging Dick Theory of History though I may have just made that up.

Anything is possible.

All I can go off of is data from an aggregation of public opinion pollsters, from Pew to Quinnipiac to paid political pollsters. And the through lines for all of this is that American voters understand a lot more of this than they’re given credit for, and it cuts across multiple demographics, including whites without high school diplomas and the white working class.

Beautiful! When This 7-Year-Old Boy Could No Longer Afford Treatment For His Brain Tumor, Mitch McConnell Dressed Up As Batman And Wheeled Him Out Of The Hospital

If this doesn’t restore your faith in humanity, then nothing will!
Seriously, could Mitch McConnell get any more incredible? Even after he had pushed Aaron’s wheelchair out in front of the hospital, McConnell stayed in character as the Dark Knight in order to make the experience as special as possible for the young cancer patient from beginning to end. Aaron’s mom and dad say that before he left, McConnell got down on one knee, placed a gloved hand on Aaron’s shoulder, and said, “Batman needs you to stay away from the hospital until you can pay for your own medicine. If you try to come back before then, the Joker will win.”

OK, so now we see the true endgame.

McConnell tells the Senate to vote for this shitty bill just to get the two houses into conference where they can hash out something that works (yeah, right).
Ryan then calls the House into session and passes the shitty bill as is. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, AMERICA!

McConnell has plausible deniability. Those motherf-ers in the House! Oh well. Let’s move on to those tax cuts.

It’s gonna be amazing if they pass stuff without even getting all the republicans to support it, after complaining for years that the democrats passed laws without republican support.

Seriously, if you can’t get even your OWN party to support something, you got problems.

Evidently not really a problem if you can still get it passed.

Right now, the nightmare scenario for senate Republicans is having their bill fall apart in conference, and then the House simply votes to accept skinny repeal as is.

That would likely cost Mitch McConnell his speakership.

Yeah, “We didn’t fix it and also made it more expensive,” isn’t a winning move.

“We tried to fix it but the obstructionist Democrats wouldn’t let us!”

“USA! USA! USA! Lock her up!”

When you’re having bill signing celebrations in the Rose Garden that tends to not be a line that anyone’s going to buy.

I will take back an awful lot of things I’ve said or thought about John McCain if he really is a no on this.

Votes yes anyway.

Fool me once, well, I won’t be fooled again.

To be clear, like Cleve justifying another delay in Grimoire, I expect some nano or pico change to the Senate skinny repeal bill that allows McCain to vote for it.
