Fucking a, didn’t think he had it in him. Kudos to the 3 Republican Senators that proved their humanity tonight. What now though?

Trump tweeted twice thanking McCain for coming back to vote.

I went to sleep two hours ago, awoke to nearly 200 messages in here, but now I see why. Holy moly what a ride.

It sounds like McCain signaled to McConnell as soon as he got to the floor that he was a NO.

And then even so, for 45 minutes McCain, Murkowski, and Collins got worked over by the rest of the conference to get one to flip to YES.

But then they go to the vote, and it should’ve been clear: this thing was doomed. And still…they rode that rocket into the ground.

Edit: oops, via

That is God-damned amazing.

Confirmed: there were three Republican “NO” votes when Heller voted AYE.

1:36 AM

Confirmed: Collins, McCain and Murkowski vote against. Heller and Sasse votes are still outstanding at this very moment.

Seeing McConnell’s turtle ass laughing right before the hammer gets dropped makes this even better.

Could be. But without getting Zapruder on this shit the video to me shows that was a surprise, at least to several senators in that room.

Anyways just glad peoples healthcare has been saved. For now at least.

That’s from the FiveThirtyEight liveblog.

Just watched it on CSPAN. All three NOs had voted before Heller, confirmed.

I mean, I’m sure it was a surprise. I just wonder why Dean Heller–once he knew this thing was dead–decided to cast an AYE vote that is going to be used to make his reelection more difficult.

Then Heller was just an idiot :)

Silver said that it was interesting that the Republican leadership didn’t “let” Heller flip to NO. So maybe he’s got assurances of something if his no vote costs him his seat. Dunno.

Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn. Republicans (by and large) don’t represent their constituents, they are there for their donors. So Heller loses his seat but has to ‘settle’ instead for a 7 figure lobbyist job in 2018.

It will be interesting to see if the likes of Flake or even Cruz become vulnerable (doubtful, but now at least it might be possible.)

Good ole Worcester turtle boy. Nice pull.

I resemble this remark. Didn’t expect to hear any good news this morning, so it’s a pleasant surprise. Though the good feelings are tempered by a nagging feeling of “how far have we fallen, that things didn’t get any worse this time” has become good news?

At one point before the final vote, Trump called Pence, who handed the phone to McCain, a source briefed on the call told CNN. The call, just off the Senate floor, was brief and ultimately unsuccessful.

Best thing to wake up to this morning!

Reading this thread this morning was EPIC. First place I went to see what happened. The suspense…

Thanks for staying up late, guys.
