I went to bed expecting to wake up to wake to bad news and this morning I check P&R and notice there are 190 comments since I feel asleep. This administration and this god damn vote has been a living nightmare but waking up and reading the good news is almost on par with Obama winning in '08.

Ok, now on to tax cuts for the filthy rich.

He took the fall for the rest of the Senate GOP. He knew the house would ram the bill through Friday, and Trump would leave the golf course to sign Saturday.

He knew the house sent them a shit bill, they could only make a less shitty version, and the house GOP would just sign it and all of the negative fallout would be, “We made the right bill, the Senate screwed it up, blame them”

One thing McCain has always been is loyal to his Senate colleagues. I think he wanted to have their backs one last time. This was pressure from Ryan and Trump, who he both dislikes intensely.

Echoing the thanks to the P&R Night Crew for making this a great read.

Yeah, the sad irony is that McCain, Murkowski and Collins are going to be absolutely pilloried by Republicans in the coming days…and those three may have done more to save their party’s prospects longterm in elections than any of the 49 Yes votes did.

They should quit the party and join forces with the Democrats.

“I like presidents whose healtchare initiatives DON’T fail miserably on the floor of the Senate. Later, dickface. *click*”

Oh, and I’m writing to @Strollen that he was right and I was wrong about McCain on this vote. Your guy came through for us!

Crow humbly eaten.

I felt warm fuzzies while reading this while thread too. While it’s undeniably awesome what McCain did (the “fuck you”-es of it all the more so), how sad is it that that not fucking over millions of Americans in an undeniably un-democratic process is our new bar for heroic action? Basically, showing the bare minimum of job competence and human decency is the new standard for “taking a brave stand”.

In other words, fuck those other 49 assholes.

I wish the media would say something like 'Diaster avoided! Three republicans care about you!" instead of being all ‘The GOP failed yet again! Losers!’

Pickles must be so upset after last night that he probably never made it to summer camp today.

Since I was in bed by this point last night, I’m here to collect ;)

Well done to Murkowski, McCain, and Collins for doing the right thing.

… Now if there were only more than 3 members of the ruling party who could be counted on to do that.

I am surprised and grateful for McCain’s no vote on this piece of crap bill. It shouldn’t have been in doubt, but it was in these terrible GOP times.

awesome updates through the night folks!! thanks!!

Yes, me too.

I cosign all of this.

There were so many protesters outside the Capitol last night at 1:30 in the morning that they could be clearly heard inside the senate chambers.

I mean, full credit to Collins, Murkowski, and McCain. But anyone who made phone calls, showed up for town halls, or wrote a letter or an email…that’s what did this.

(And a special, amazing shout-out to the ADAPT.org folks who did the REALLY heavy lifting on this. When you saw news clips of people in wheelchairs and with assisted breathing devices dragged from senate offices and placed under arrest…that was ADAPT.)

This Sunday on Game of Thrones : Theon Greyjoy appears at The Wall riding a dragon and proceeds to melt the entire White Walker army into a slimy puddle while giving a thumbs down to the Night King.

Fucking Epic. McCain, Collins, Murkowski : nicely done and thank you.

McConnell is finished. This was too epic a defeat to result in anything less than his replacement as majority leader. I give it less than 24 hours before a Trump Tweet about “failing Mitch McConnell” appears. Even the Mouch won’t be able to distract from this epic fail today.

EDIT : I just can’t stop smiling at the ultimate irony of Mitch McConnell accusing the Democrats in 2010 of passing Obamacare by “negotiating in secret and jamming it through on a party-line vote in the middle of the night” … and then failing to do EXACTLY THAT with his own terrible legislation.
I so fucking HATE that guy.
