Oblivion - Tom Cruise Post-Apocalyptic Non-Whitta Joint

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski of Tron: Legacy.

Damn, how much money did Katie take in the divorce? Cruise is making Samuel L. Jackson look like a layabout.

Soundtrack by M83.

You would have thought Skyrim would be a better choice.

The top of the ESB is still in excellent shape!

Airbike by Aperture Science.

No…no, definitely Morrowind, hmm ok Daggerfall then? It’s a tough call. I think they decided on ‘Oblivion’ just because it means something else in the english language and they didn’t want to alienate a maybe uninformed public? I hope this doesn’t mean the movie will be more light weight than it needs be?

Bethesda lawsuit incoming?

It sounds like a labor union metaphor. He’s a worker and scavs are his enemy, except he meets and talks to one and finds out they are both being exploited by those who employ them.

Morgan Freeman is in this as well.

According to the Wikipedia article quite a few big names auditioned to be in this movie opposite Cruise.

That said, any movie that gets moved from a summer release to a spring one is suspect. If they were that convinced of how good it was going to do they would leave it in the summer.

Is that the skyscraper version of the Argonath?

So, he plays Wall-E?

I don’t understand the poster. The Empire State Building turned into rock? What?

How is it hard to understand? its a way of showing you a lot of time has passed. Looks interesting!

Too bad the image idea is a pretty blatant ripoff.

Seriously, I read the plot thingo in the first post and was about to go photoshop the poster to make this joke.

The above two things are fantastic. M83 should make for a great ambient soundtrack. I love Kosinski’s style; Tron: Legacy was amazing from a visual perspective. Where that movie fails is its sense of story…

Welp, here is to hoping he has a strong script. I think it will be great to look at and listen to, regardless.

Trailer time, folks. Watch it quick, this is probably going to get pulled.

I hate trailers that spoil so much. My advice is to avoid watching this one. But then again, it’s just another Cruise flick, so who’d really care?

I do - and the movie looks great. And damn some of you guys are negative people.

Some of the stuff in the trailer reminds me of the plot from Rage as well. But supposedly this is based on a graphic novel that Kosinski co-wrote, so he has a strong interest in making sure the film adaptation is right. I don’t know much about the graphic novel, though.
