Odd Windows 10 Issue: Store Can No Longer See Hard Drive

Boot into WinPE from something like rescue environment or USB Macrium Reflect Free allows you to make and delete the wpsystem and windowsapps folders on that drive to reclaim the space.

Well hang on, now the store sees my D drive and I’m installing FH3 as I type this. W. T. F.

So the weird thing is, I recently uninstalled both Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, relying solely on Windows Defender now, because I wanted to use dgVoodoo, a D3D and glide emulator that helps older games run better (and works great when it does). Both BD and MB flagged this thing and removed it several times, so I just said screw it and uninstalled them both.

Now the Microsoft Store and Xbox apps have no problem seeing my game drive, installing and running games. I’ve not yet rebooted since trying both Forza Horizon 3 and Halo, but they both work. Hopefully they’ll work after a reboot too.

So yeah, if you’re having this problem, AV might be to blame.

I’m going to guess it will disappear upon reboot and AV isn’t the exact cause.

Zzzt. Wrong. It actually loaded up fine after a reboot.

I’m honestly as shocked as you are.

We’ll see if it sticks after a full power-down, but I don’t feel like doing that at the moment.
