Oh god, I've resubbed to Eve-Online

I can’t even figure out how to restart it!

Is it even possible to go on with the game without finishing the tutorial?

Yes but it’s basically a sandbox you can do whatever you want, the problem is you don’t know how.

You should be able to restart the tutorial somehow (ask in the newbie chat, there are always helpful people there), since it guides you though a few missions and then guides you to another agent to get more missions.

It all depends on what you want to do, the tutorials will show you the different professions there are.

My understanding is that to actually restart the tutorial after finishing it you have to petition a GM. Otherwise hit F12 or go to the People & Places tab. Select career agents, these should include all the agents that give you specific tutorials.

So will my guy still be where I abandoned him years ago? He was piloting reasonably big ships, and I had a big miner ship. Will I need to do the tutorial again?

You shouldn’t have to I wouldn’t think. I came back after 2+ years and just started playing and didn’t have to do anything with a tutorial. You would probably have to sub again to fly your bigger miner ships, though.

Thanks. Hmm, we’ll see. :)

Went on another T1 roam last night, but I had to take my Omega clone rather than my Alpha, as I had my first go in an eWar Maulus, soaked in sensor damping. If your ship had a base targeting range of 50km I could lower that to about 9km. From 35km away.

As a result we didn’t lose any ships through most of the roam, as we could scramble you from further than you could target us, but then right at the end of the night we jumped into a gate that had seven of those instalock artillery Thrashers parked - the ones designed to kill frigates in one volley.

Through pure good luck I was the only one to safely warp out of the camp, but I didn’t have a safespot in system, so I warped to a planet. Through pure bad luck it turned out there was a Punisher sat right at this planet and he managed to target me and scramble me before I could even move after landing from warp.

This meant I couldn’t warp out and I couldn’t get the MWD to switch on either. So I pushed my two remaining drones over the side and targeted him, then hit him with all three sensor dampers and tried to use manual piloting to twist and turn out of range. I finally made it clear and managed to warp off… with no shields and 4% armour left.

However, it turned out my drones did a tiny amount of damage to the Punisher, which meant that when he then accidentally jumped into that same Thrasher camp and got blatted, I got on the killmail.

My evil chuckle was impressive.

@Mr_Bismarck , please keep posting these patrol reports. It’s giving me grins and flashbacks of the fun. I seriously wish I had time for an MMO these days. I’d be all over this again.

So I really seem to like what I see in this game, newbie that I am. However at the same time, I can already tell that it is much more of a time-sink than I’m going to be able to devote long term (I’m much too ADHD nowadays).

So what out there gives a ‘feel’ like EVE, without being… EVE? I suppose what I’m asking for is something single player so I can separate myself from the mental need to ‘always be playing’, and dealing with all the multiplayer aspects (corporations, for example) that I just can’t devote time into.

Probably the only thing that comes close to scale or intricacies of market is… something like Elite Dangerous. But I’m not super up on modern space sims, so perhaps @BrianRubin could answer your question better.

Brian would surely know more, but I had fun with Starpoint Gemini 2 and Evochron Legacy that may be sort of similar. Evochron is a bit more hard core in the flight model and learning to fly. SG2 has been on sale before I know, but doesn’t appear to be right now. I believe both have combat, missions, mining and trading although I don’t recall much in the way of production. The most diverse PvE games with production are probably the X3 series; not sure how far along X:Rebirth is, but those may take a big time commitment too.

He said he wanted the EVE experience!

Astrox is the game you want.

Oooh, I may have to take a look at that!

Touche. I’m okay with some time commitment when detached from the multiplayer aspects. Because I can drag that commitment out over however many years/decades that I choose (and, based on my ability to get through RPGs, isn’t only a slight exaggeration).

That said, Astrox looks like it might be the answer. An EVE-like clone that “ends” after a time. Nice!

I also realized that I have Rebel Galaxy sitting in my backlog from Humble. It may not be the same as EVE, but might scratch the itch if I’m just looking for “space stuff”.

It is a very fun game in my opinion. Very much not EVE like, but fun regardless. More of a space AC: Black Flag.

What about X3 Terran Conflict with the Albion expansion?

By the time I realised I had a problem with X3 I had pages and pages of spreadsheets calculating profitable trading routes for automated freighters with automated fighter escorts so I could make frankly alarming amounts of money while I was sleeping at night.

That’s somehwat EVE adjacent.

So just to finish out the derail, X3 does indeed look like it will scratch the same itch. It appears to be effectively 3 games (Terran Conflict, Albion Prelude, then the overhaul mod Litcube’s Universe), with apparently 100’s of hours of gameplay in each. And there is a youtuber out there with something 700+ let’s play videos on it. Geez.

Went on another Frigate roam through FW space, but didn’t find many frigates willing to fight. Potentially because there were nine of us… Instead we started to hit slightly larger complexes and took down four destroyers and a cruiser.

The right at the end of the night in YOLO mode we landed on a Combat Battlecruiser and tried to take him down. We were doing ok, but our DPS was steadily decreasing as we started to lose Frigates and then when he had some friends land on grid we bugged out.

On the plus side, our formation flying was on point.

Does anyone have any opinions on any of the ‘newbro’ corps? I’m really happy with the information publicly available on the Brave Newbie wiki, so they are a top contender at the moment once I’m out of the SoE arc.
