It can take a long time for your cities in Old World to finish whatever they're doing. Whether you're producing a worker, a scout, a military unit, walls, a treasury, or a gardener for your lavender grove, it can take literally years..
This is fantastic. I now completed two full games of Old World. While I have seen the hurry button I have never felt the need to use it. However I do sometimes have a bunch of leftover orders in times of peace, will try out to use them to hurry for sure next time.
The State Religion + Zealot leader thing can be crazy strong. Being able to redirect training (guns) into specialists and projects (butter) when OW typically keeps those things fastidiously separate is absolutely massive.
Nice article. I love how much can be written about Old World. I didn’t realize damaged cities couldn’t hurry, which means I’ll be prioritizing spy work in my next playthrough.
Sage family seats (and I think Babylonian cities, or cities under a Scholar leader?) can build the Inquiry project for a one-time chunk of research. Saved my bacon early on in my most recent game when some random deaths on the court had me down to single-digit research per turn.
When I put it my request to review Old World as part of the monthly Patron bonus, I didn’t realize I’d be getting 1/2 dozen in-depth guides. I also didn’t know about the damage or the synergy with the spymaster.
