It’ll work, but the VESA mount on the LG OLEDs is in the bottom third of the device rather than the center, so it will likely be higher than you want it. I had to move my wall mount down.

Be aware of the weight limits on the mount and how much the new TV weighs, too.

And above 55", hanging the thing is a two man job, mostly because of the size and fragility of the thing.

If you’re mounting anything on a wall vs putting it on a stand I would think it’d be a two-person job. With a stand you’ve got gravity working for you. Then again I’ve never done a wall-mounting so what do I know.

I could easily mount, demount and remount my 42" sony on my own.

Yes, at about 55" it becomes fraught with peril though.

Especially with these OLEDs. Even to lift it onto a stand I asked for help. The actual screen is what, a quarter inch thick?

It’s much thinner than my iPhone. It’s crazy thin. No way would I pick up anything larger than the 48" model.

Interestingly the G series is not as thin. Maybe 1.5 or even 2 cm (3/4ths of an inch). But that’s as thick as it goes, so it can go fully flush against the wall. All the electronics are spread out over the whole surface.

Didn’t make lifting the 65” any easier.

I lifted the 55" LG CX solo, but I did so with the mount arms attached to the back of the tv, and a super strong 2 foot zip tie between the brackets to create a handle, this method worked great.

I just did this with my 48". Got a mount, bolted it to the wall as per instructions, put the bits on the back of the TV, lifted it up, only to find that the mount blocked the cables. Brought it down, changed the height of the bits on the TV, put it back up, only to find it was much too high. Brought it back down, unbolted it from the wall, drilled new holes, put it back up, etc. Each time got easier, but was still rather harrowing.

On the note of a new mount, I almost bought one that extended a full 48"- four feet off the wall! I could get the same feeling a y’all do with your big-ass TVs in your big rooms, with the screen filling my whole field of veiw and having to turn my head back and forth to see the whole thing! But ultimately, reason won out and this one only extends a paltry 24".

Well, the current TV is getting worse by the day so we’re pulling the trigger on a new one. But I couldn’t find a recommended OLED in the area so I’m probably going to go with this Hisense. It’s replacing a 50" so I don’t think I will have to move the mount at all, it’ll just be around 2.5" bigger around the perimeter. We’ll see how that goes.

did you look for the Sony A80J as well? It was on sale for $1,000 recently, it is a bit more but a great TV.

edit: the LG G1 is also currently on sale at $1k if you can find it in stock at Best Buy:

Thanks for the link. I just ran across that sale on Slickdeals. Looks like I can get it delivered.

And now, in the category, “Things no one asked for & nobody wants,” LG brings NFTs to their TVs.

All I can say is FUCK YOU LG. Why don’t you do something useful with the money we’ve given you over the years?

You mean besides making the best OLED displays in the industry?

They can do whatever they want with the money they make. And you can choose to not give them your money. That’s how this works.

Except I can’t go back and retroactively not give them money now that they’ve added this garbage to my TV.

Shrug, all smart TVs are garbage. I don’t let mine access the internet at all. Additionally on LG TVs, the trick is to only agree to the top two items, this essentially disables most “smart” functionality.

Yeah, exactly this. They DO make the best OLED displays and I have bought multiple TVs because of that. But I don’t appreciate them becoming worse than they were when purchased due to software fuckery.

Given how shitty TV company cybersecurity is, presumably they’re going to get hacked up the wazoo soon and quietly drop it shortly after.
