Once upon a time in Mexico

Just spotted this trailer on apple.com as well. They are doing a new El Mariachi movie with all the usual suspects back PLUS Johnny Depp and Willem Dafoe. The trailer looked like just as much fun as Desperado if not more. Definitely added this to my must see list…others thoughts?

I saw the trailer on Apple as well. Definitely looks like it has potential.

Yeah but please not with this god-awful music - I know it’s a temp score for the trailer but nonetheless… ;)

I hope you’re not talking about the Spanish guitar music. The techno-beat playing through a lot of the trailer I could do without but the Spanish guitar was cool and seemed quite appropriate.

I love the guitar music as well… How the heck did he get Dafoe and Depp into this?

Once upon a Time in Mexico?

Mr. Rodriguez, I know Sergio Leone. You, sir, are no Sergio Leone. I mean, you know, I guess Spy Kids was fun and all, but still…

Of course I’m not talking about the Spanish guitar music, I loved it in Desperado !

I was talking about the pseudo-techno in the trailer, which sounded really awful to me, and not at all suited for the mood of the movie.

That’s cool. Just had to make sure you weren’t dissing the guitar music.

Los Lobos made pretty cool tracks for Desperado !

The lil scene with the guitar-case flame thrower in the trailer - look who is holding it.Think a certain shitty tennis player might make a small appearance?

The song played during the trailer was Pistolero by Juno Reactor, I believe.

As aforementioned, the song is Pistolero, by Juno reactor.

They’re a techno band, yeah.

But to knock the song because it’s techno - Come on now. Give it a serious listen. You’ll find a damn fine spanish guitar voice layed over some fairly creative and adrenaline inducing rhythms.

Spanish guitar plus techno is almost as badass a combo as jazz plus techno, or jazz plus classical.

Or hell, anything that dares to defy being pegged into a single genre.

I wonder if Once Upon a Time in Mexico was his reward for filming Spy Kids 3D?

Would this movie be considered a sequel? Perhaps he’s following Leone and this is #2 in a trilogy?

Its #3 in a trilogy.

Number three in a trilogy of remakes of the same movie, maybe. In a bottle, wey.

Did someone say Johnny Depp? That guy is like Gene Hackman, in that he can make a mediocre film fun to watch (ref: Enemy of the State). I saw Desperado recently, and it wasn’t nearly as good as I remembered it. Too much Anonymous Bad Guy Cannon Fodder with an extra helping of Huge Sunglasses.

Speaking of Johnny Depp. I caught the ad on tv again tonite. There is a funny line at the end. Something along the line of “Oh yeah, it could get a little dangerous too, sugarbutt”. My wife is in the room and starts laughing about the sugarbutt. Why can Johnny Depp get away with a line that would get me in the dog house for a month if I tried calling her that for real???
