This is leading up to the MITD reveal. The familiar will be foiled by the underworld guys, who get the phylactery , O-chul will be threatened with something worse than death by Xykon, which forces the hand of the MITD, who will come out and crush Xykon, who kills O-Chul anyway but gets destroyed afterward. MITD will leave with O-Chul and Xykon’s deaths. OOTS will show up with Roy and save V, who will have paid his debt. Devils now have a pet Lich and want to control Snarl. OOTS have to face off against them but have an unexpected ally in a returning Redcloak, who wants his boss back.

Rich will do everything different, though, because he CAN READ MY MIND AND HATES ME.

I’m starting to hear the theme song to Shaft in my head every time I see O’Chul.

The bird is totally gonna be like “AW HELL NAW” and pop out of existence.

This set is awesome. I’m actually really excited about each one, and simultaneously disappointed and amped up at the end of each of them.

No offence Rhino, but I’m sort of glad Rich can read your mind.

flight of the phylactery

Oh, yessssss.

Edit: And I think I know what V cast, too. :)

That one got a big laugh from me. Perfect for V’s character.

EXPLOSIVE RUNES! :-D

Awesome.

I just love that he prepared that spell even though he was a super uber badass epic when he did it.

Actually, I think all the spells he has now are the the ones left over from the last time he prepared before he was super epic badass. I think it’s been like 90 minutes of clock time since he became a super epic badass, though it does seem longer since so much happened over so many strips since then.

I think it was closer to ten minutes, twenty at the outside. He shat a brick at the thought of dealing with that resurrection spell, remember?

Anyway, nice to see an honest to goodness slapstick joke again.

I’m betting the next one has a really large panel of some kind.

So is the implication here that V asked his familiar to drop it in the vortex, but knew the familiar was going to screw it up, so he also cast explosive runes? (I know Blackwing is pretty unreliable at best)

from what i got from the caw caw caw translation and the orange text evil plane dude, v ordered the bird to stay and hold the soul necklace in front of the hole. probably a good idea given the success rate of the bird as seen in your research.

when the runes explode, v gets her revenge on the bird, hits noel in the face, and blasts the soul thingy into the hole.

On the one hand, I hope this works. It’s a pretty clever trick and plays back to a lot of history. On the other hand, I’d miss ZXycklon…

I’m out of touch with D&D, but from browsing this thread I gather it’s pretty easy for a lich to rebuild a phylactery. Maybe that’s where this is going.

that assumes the lich is alive to rebuild it

He can build a new vessel for his soul, but what if his soul is in the current one when it goes through the rift?

It won’t be for two reasons.

  1. Ochul and V aren’t capable of taking Xykon down. They just aren’t in his league.

  2. Xykon is too major of a character to be killed off in this little tangent.

Worst case scenario is that Xykon seems to be killed off but comes back later because the snarl returns the phylactery to the world or something along those lines.

I assume with his soul inside it, Xykon will now actually be possessed by the Snarl… or possibly vice versa.

That’s my assumption as well. We’ll have to see if O-Chul and V manage to get out of this alive. I figure there’s absolutely no chance they will take down Xykon. Best case for them is they inconvenience him and get away.
