I thought that one was tied to the location and not the people and items. Could be wrong though, that was something Rich made up on all in his own.
Celia talks to Haley about it at some point. The reason they couldn’t be scried by V when they left teh city was that it applied to them since they were in the city when it was cast.
New one’s up. Good on you guys who called anti-detection spells on the phylactery.
Wonder if we’ll get the MITD revelation for #666.
Xykon jamming his fist down Ochul’s throat is a nice touch, “Meteor…”!
Funny too how V is held throughout the scene – Damn I always hated being on the sharp end of that spell!
OK (and spoiler warning),
Let the rampant speculation begin.
What in the creature book can teleport others away when they are in danger? Also must have very high DR and incredibly high strength.
It’s bugging the hell out of me too, I can’t figure it out. A really old dragon would fit the bill, but wouldn’t fit in the box. My current pet theory is genie or efreet or something along those lines. That would account for the mix of physical and magical might.
Betcha it was Nale and Co somehow.
Yes, it’s got either a Teleport others or Wish/Limited Wish ability. I don’t have my 3rd ed books any more, so I’m counting on you guys. No pressure.

Clearly MitD’s doing. I am guessing it’s an Abomination; essentially a rank 0 deity. I’m going to go one step further and guess it’s the spawn of Redcloak’s Goblin God and Xykon.

That doesn’t match the story that MitD was captured in the “Deep Rainforest” and put on a circus act for a while before being rescued by goblins. See Start of Darkness. Edit: I just noticed that a lot of that story is also referenced here in #651.
Transport travelers. A wish can lift one creature per caster level from anywhere on any plane and place those creatures anywhere else on any plane regardless of local conditions. An unwilling target gets a Will save to negate the effect, and spell resistance (if any) applies.
Wish definition
Interesting. Per the OOTS forum: This is also interesting.
I’ll bet the MitD had nothing to do with that teleport.

I’m at a loss then. I spend a minute or two puzzling over the MitD every time it’s in a strip.
Being a relatively new reader I didn’t know about the books. Clever of Burlew to put the back stories in print only form. I’m curious enough now that I ordered both the Start of Darkness and On the Origin of PC’s.
They’re both very good reads. Borrowing a friend’s copies at a convention a few years back got me into Order of the Stick originally.

I really liked On the Origin of the PCs. I found Start of Darkness pretty dark, dank, and depressing at least by OotS standards. I suppose if nothing else it is informative, and a lot of people seem to like it.
You’ve got to give him credit, he seems to be a sharp business man when it comes to drawing customers in with a free product and then getting them to spend money on the value adds. I’ve got every OOTS book he’s published, even if most of them are compendiums of strips I’ve already read.
Start of Darkness is full of grim stuff but it’s an extremely well-told story about how goblins and “lesser” races see themselves fitting into the world. All the stuff about Redcloak and his family is just great tragedy.
Yeah, I seriously doubt it myself. Like I said, I think it’s Nale.
Even the compendium books offer a bunch of additional content (bonus strips, commentary from the author and characters, etc.). I love them, and can’t wait for a new one.
