Yes, sure - i was meaning in 4e. And it’s not an opinion I have any particular truck with, just something I’ve seen mentioned a couple of times.

The utter geekiness of this thread gives great joy to me :)

As far as 4E goes, IIRC, all spell-casting classes generally are considered weak both in comparison to martial 4E classes and to the spell-casting classes as they were represented in earlier editions. The decline in overall power from a 3.5E basic magic to a 4E version of the same class is astonishing, if much-needed.

I’m not sure how we got on the tangent of warlock weakness here. I don’t think the wizard in the strip was trash talking warlocks because they are weak.

First Step in the Process

Wow, the Giant isn’t wasting anytime following up on that subplot. I thought he’d let it stew a while and let the OotS do some adventuring first.

Heh
Hehehe
I haven’t read OOTS in like, 5 months.
I am SO in for a great time :)

Heh, panel 4 there is awesome.

679 is up.

I don’t get it.

He/she is right back to abusing his/her relationships by asking his/her familiar to go rob a store to get the required diamond dust.

Spoilerz.

I don’t think he’s robbing it. I got the impression the raven’s just pretending to be someone who isn’t banned from the store and buying the stuff.

Oh.

Well, still, point remains.

No, it really doesn’t.

The point is that they forgot about their initial mission to get the diamond dust. Although V resolves his problem with the divorce, only at the end do both V and the familiar remember their initial task. Because they’re banned from the magic shop, the familiar has to get the diamond dust while disguised.

Hence the strip’s title, “Oh, Right, That Other Problem…”

Yeah it does. He is asking his familiar to do something disingenuous.

How is that abusing the familiar? Also, the last panel shows the familiar fulfilling his own desires by asking for the shiny bauble, as well as the diamond dust.

It could go either way if you ask me!

Someone ask me. Go ahead.

Okay, fine. Here’s the question: How would define your gender?

My! Sounds troublesome.

I agree with Raife. In fact in this case, I view the last panel as a positive step for V. V has ignored his/her familiar just like he ignored his family. Now V is integrating his familiar into his life and asking him to participate in what V’s most important task. This is a positive move for V and absolutely not what he did with his mate.

Agreed, whether or not V sent the bird in, it’s not a moral or psychological problem either way, it’s just a mildly amusing way to take care of the immediate little plot issue.
