Damn you, Burlew. Somewhat regular updates and no ultra-drama? I feel myself backsliding.
And the new book is coming too! Woot!

Ha, ha. Took me a minute to figure out the meaning of the comic title, but definitely a good punch line.
Roy now has a +5 sword and either a +4 or +6 belt of giant strength. And he dual weilds. Getting hit by that sword has to hurt.
At least Roy’s character model looks a little more interesting. Instead of just blue, now he’s blue with a GREEN STRIPE!
DnD question: I haven’t played DnD since, oh, about 1979 (Original Warhammer uber alles!). I seem to recall, way back then, that if you died and were rezzed, you lost some stats permanently. Like -1 to STR, maybe some other things too.
Is that still true? What sort of penalty would Roy have paid for his resurrection?
He holds the weapon with both hands.
That’s not dual wielding. Dual wielding is a weapon in each hand.

Isn’t it a greatsword? Thus, is is inherently a 2H weapon unless Roy has monkey grip.
Also, Ryan, Dual wield means to wield two weapons, one in each hand. not one weapon in two hands.
They got rid of that. In 3rd edition D&D there was an XP penalty for dying. I don’t recall the exact 4th edition penalty off the top of my head, but as I recollect it was something temporary that would wear off after some time had passed.
You’re right, what Roy does is two-hand his weapon, which is what I think Greatatlantic meant to say, but I figured rather than correct him I could just tell Sebmojo what he meant.
It just means it all amounts to something like 2d6 +19 damage, which often crits for over 50 – i.e. save or die.

In 3.x you lose one level and you start at bottom for that level. So if you were about to level and you die, you essentially lose two levels.
It’s a bit broken, because when you start a new character you start at average party level (APL) -1. So if everyone is 10th level, and you die and get rezzed to 9th level, while everyone who survives the fight gets enough XP to go to 11th, then you’re better off starting a new character at 10th level than to continue to play your now 9th level character.
Once clerics get True Resurrection (17th level, usually), then it’s no longer applicable, as there is no XP cost it just costs 25,000 gp in diamond dust to cast. At that level that shouldn’t be too hard, although the fun is when diamond dust gets in short supply.

I like it. :)
Man, I should’ve seen that joke coming, especially when he telegraphed it so…
