Nale and company have had a pretty profound impact on these three characters (Elan, Vaarsuvius and Haley), not to mention the succubus’ relationship with the three Evil Lords who have some clear interest in the whole gate thing.

Side story? Haven’t there been pretty strong hints that Nale+Elan’s father is from this continent + we have been led to believe that Haley’s father is also locked up in some kingdom here? Seems to me more like we are about to start a storyline to tie up 1 one of the major subplots.

I suspect Elan is about to meet father-in-law - and perhaps learn more about his own background as well.

Thought about that too, but not likely. For one, Elan/Haley have already been pretty busy and secondly, none of the foreshadowing has given any hints that this might be the case (distinct characters for the father - no hint that they may have a common mother).

We’ll see, but its pretty clear the guys who took Elan and Vars are mistaking them for Nale’s gang, and that most likely means this is some sort of “mistaken identity” subplot as opposed to something more complex. They are using a wanted poster, after all. In other words, right now I don’t see where this necessarily leads to a bunch of subplots being dealt with.

I think the connection is pretty obvious - Haley’s father is a prisoner (unknown where), part of the group is about to become prisoner, and the beginning of this story arc very clearly re-established the whole “Haley looking for father” subplot (and especially her secrecy on the matter to others). Also - how do you find a master illusionist? In a roundabout way - obviously. But we’ll see in a couple of months or so.

Note that the list of his crew is the OG Linear Guild, as it has Yikyik and the elf, so whatever it is happened pre-book 1. No mention of the dwarf priest, though.
