<3 <3 Haley <3 <3

You can almost imagine the sigh and invisible facepalm before “…is that a Blade Barrier in the doorway to the throne room?”

Haley are normally not a pushover. Maybe Elan made the right choice?
And - who are that pushy person - really?

Someone who’s Lawful, certainly. Or at least good at acting Lawful.

I’m going to stick with my previous call and guess that tackly guy is the same Lawful Evil person shown here, or someone closely related.

Unless Rich is just messing with his fans again, as he seems to like to do occasionally.

Awesome, I thought he looked familiar.

I can’t wait for the inevitable “Elan, I am your father” jokes.

I think it’s him, too…he had to show up eventually, and Rich is in the process of tying up all the side quests and backstories since the end of OOTS is (relatively) near now. It only took 675 strips, too!

Oh.

Yeah, that’s almost disappointingly obvious, now that it’s been pointed out.

Which is of course the most compelling argument for the conclusion being completely wrong. This… is… Burlew, after all.

Wow, your memory of past OOTS strips is impressive!

Nah. Having the books available makes it easy to check if one has a rough idea which strip one is looking for.

You get your wish.

Generally Relative

Unfortunately there’s no soundtrack. To make it really work, you need that incredibly low-pitched voice from James Earl Jones.

Wow! Great stuff. So many nice lines:

“Wow! You have pretty cool armor for a midwife!” (so very Elan!)

“Plus, he didn’t rant about his intellectual superiority even ONCE.”

Plus the whole James Earl Jones thing and the entire last panel.

I’m really interested to see how the father character develops. We can see right off the bat where Elan gets his, um, Elanity from. I’m guessing there’s going to be some Naleishness in there too. I can’t see a straight up Elan type ever holding down an evil general type job.

Presumably the father chose to be an evil general because villains get better dramatic scenes than heroes.

I actually laughed aloud at that one. Very well-played, Rich.

Nale.

“Heredity is a cruel mistress” had me almost crap my pants here in the office, I had to shut my door so no one would send in the paramedics while I stifled the braying.

Don’t fret your pretty red head.

In addition to the storylines coming together, it’s also nice to see the pace at which the strips are coming out. Hope he can keep this up.

After our speculation, the title of the strip gave it away.

Fortunately, Burlew executed it so perfectly, it didn’t matter. Getting to see that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree was a nice touch. :)

You’re good… :) Hahahahaha!
