I interpreted the size of the bribe to indicate just how badly Haley does NOT want to spend any more time with Elan’s father. But maybe I’m just being charitable.

It should be obvious that Elan’s dad intends to steal away/marry Haley.

Also, they had just started discussing their plans to bust Roy out of the ring; paralysis doesn’t stop the person being aware, right? So she had to basically bribe him to kingdom come to keep him quiet.
