Elan’s dad says the same thing in the 5th panel of the new strip that Elan says in the 7th panel of the old strip.

I’m astounded that russellmz00 picked it up though. Who remembers the wording on something 600 strips ago!

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Hit points and combat in D&D is sufficiently abstract so that you could argue that Tarquin is actually losing a few of his substantial number of hit points during those frames.

Tarquin probably has a few levels of Barbarian, and so gets his dodging even when flat footed.

I bet at some point in the not too distant future he loses his cool for the bonus STR/CON.
