I have to say that Tarquin and his lizard pal are folks I just really enjoy reading about.
My, that was a surprise. Several surprises actually.
However, they still haven’t said what the relationship between Tarquin and the tatooed illusionist whose name escapes me is.
I am going to guess he either is a powerful force that alone makes Tarquin nervous and he wants him gone, or the Illusionist has figured out the scam and has been taking steps to defeat the hidden coalition.
Is the reveal about the two prisoners in the last panel significant? Am I missing something?

The idea that the land is currently ruled by the Empires of Blood, Sweat, and Tears makes me chuckle, especially because it’s literally because Tarquin and his party have been renaming the nations for years and are apparently having trouble coming up with original names. I think the prisoners at the end were the last heroes to come along and overthrow one or more of the empires.
I was wondering that myself. Though it may possibly just be a plot device to let us know those prisoners are important now? Like the Azure soldier guy and his girlfriend.
Someone refresh my memory: What’s Tyrinaria?
The land where…
MAJOR SPOILER AHOY
SERIOUSLY. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.
Haley’s father is currently being held for ransom. Haley is a redhead, you know. BTW, I predicted we’d see that plot thread resurface soon:

That’s a great catch, Dave.
Thanks, I’m kind of proud of it myself. However, I have to give credit to rajah as well. Until he asked “What’s Tyrinaria?”, I hadn’t put all the pieces together and was just mulling them over. When I remembered the answer, everything fell into place.
Wow. Yeah, I never would’ve remembered that.
Any chance you recall what storyline introduced it?
I really, really wanna re-read the entire series from the start again, but 758 strips is a lot of damn reading.
None. I’d have to go digging through my books or search online, and I’m too lazy right now. My memory of Tyrinaria is clear, though, so unless someone digs up a citation proving me wrong, I think this puzzle is solved.
Edit: more reflection says that maybe it was from a note Haley read in On the Origin of PC’s. Not sure.

Wait a minute, isn’t Haley a redhead? Doesn’t the guy say in the last panel that his hair used to be red? Could he be Haley’s father?

Damn, Dave. That’s uncanny.
Well, that’s one mystery resolved.

I think that’s the gist of it, yeah.
Tyrinaria is an unusual enough name that I recalled the context and guessed the reveal pretty much the moment I read it; but then I’ve been expecting the Haley’s father to be revealed for a while now.
It makes one realize just how slowly this series moves, though, when I see that I wrote this back in April. I really enjoy OOTS, but it is much better on paper when you don’t have to wait for the action to grind out sloooowly…
Well, my curiosity overcame my laziness. I was wrong about the book in which it appeared. The note is actually in strip 131.
I’m pretty sure it also in Origin of the PCs.
Though it’s also mentioned in these two strips, which were the reason why I’ve just been waiting for this guy to show up:

Well if anyone was in doubt before, the names “Ian” match in 680 and 758, so I guess it’s pretty much a done deal now.

Unless there are two red-haired Ians being held by the Kingdom of Tyrania, that would seem to seal it.
