Interesting thing is that this question has plagued us since when - 2007? Damn, Rich knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats.

Definitely Elan’s dad in disguise. Totally cliche and theatrical for a ruthless dictator, which fits Tarquin to a T. Also, recall how he spent time to check out the new gladiators, which would make sense if he is checking out his future opponent. Plus… hey, Gladiator…?

Since the lizard fight’s over now, we should find out who the champ is very soon.

Yes, it should only be in about 2 or 3 strips, so like a month, tops!

ZING!

That was more messed up than… I think I’m going to listen to some Mumford and Sons.

In that strip Tarquin offers them a job if they survive, which seems at odds with killing them. Plus it’s going to be rather difficult for him to sneak away while he’s publicly running the games.

The champion will be Tarquin’s good twin, Niuqrat, who he keeps locked up in a dungeon.

Who wears an iron mask.

Heh, made me laugh. :-)

This is Tarquin we’re talking about…

Plus it’s going to be rather difficult for him to sneak away while he’s publicly running the games.

Easy for him to slip out (recall he was not there at the start of the arena show either). But we’ll find out soon enough.

784 Unexpected

I’m pretty sure he’s using the Playmobil T. Rex for reference - the lines on the jaw in particular, but really the whole thing.

Hell yeah, Brother! Chomp those monkeys!

I noticed the green-haired elf was frowning at the familiar when he said that. The elf was also frowning at V earlier. Who is this elf, and why does s/he frown so often? Is s/he a relative of V’s ex?

And I didn’t notice until now, but the side effect of the allosaurus escape is that apparently both the lizardfolk guy and the half-dragon are still alive.

“Hooray! The people whose names I know are saved!”

That green haired elf looks reminiscent of V’s Partner, the baker, doesn’t (s)he?

Maybe, but here is a better fit: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0742.html .

I do not know if the elf has any greater role to play in the story, but the Kingdoms of Blood, Sweat, and Tears do share a continent with some elven nation.

In a perfect world, secret dwarf ally would be the preferred term for penis.

ahem

785: The Cost of Freedom

I don’t get the money thing. I thought it was some sort of insurance gag, but it looks like WBL is a thing in 3rd edition D&D. I couldn’t find what it is, though.
