I agree; this definitely seems to be something in the future, not the past, i.e. surprise for Nale.

Yeah, after a reread of the strip in question, I have to agree with you.

The metanarrative in this strip is amazing.

New one’s up, and things continue to look bad for the Order.

Not so bad with Nale in charge…

Well, there is that :-).

Anyone think the 3 Fiends are about to call in their markers on V?

That would totally ruin Roy’s slim chances of winning… except for Xykon showing up which might throw everything into disaray and give the heroes a shot of destroying either the gate (if they can even find it) or remaining good bad guys when they fight each other.

I’ve always been of the opinion that the 3 Fiends would wait until the climax of the entire storyline to call in their markers, and even the presence of the imp taunting Varsuvius in the current strip doesn’t change my opinion. They’re just softening him up for later. I could be wrong, of course, but as you said, doing it now would pretty much guarantee an Order defeat and the stakes aren’t high enough yet.

I liked Malack’s line, “Anything that hastens this tiresome struggle’s overdue conclusion is welcome.” It’s true to his character…also, this particular storyline started on August 31st, 2009. Strip number 673. That’s a long time, and even with side projects like the Kickstarter and Recovering From Grievous Wounds, I wonder if Rich intended for this plot to last so long before heading into the home stretch.

Chronologically, I’m sure he intended it to be finished earlier, but in terms of number of strips, it’s probably right about where he planned it to be, a nice, book sized arc that I look forward to purchasing.

I’m pretty darn sure Tarquin is going to do something to hinder Team Nale very soon. There must be some angle for him when both teams are in a back-and-forth tug of war, and he’ll look to level it out again.

Pretty sure it was when Tarquin told Nale he was in charge

Dispite his “total eeeeeeeeeeeevil” thing going on, Malack has suddenly jumped to Top Five status on the strength of these last few strips alone.

No doubt of it–one of Burlew’s greatest strengths is his villain characterizations, which run the gamut from Xykon’s callous power-mania to Nale’s revenge-driven incompetence to Redcloak’s anguished desire to save his species. Malack’s a worthy addition, as is Tarquin.

lol - true enough

Certainly. Tarquin is not the kind of villain who would leave the defeat of a protagonist as competent as Roy (even if he thinks its Elan doing the leading) to an incompetent such as Nale. Whatever angle he is playing, it involves both of his sons dancing to his tune.

Nice to see Varsuvius using his/her intellect instead of power for a change, and that what remains of the Order should reunite fairly soon.

Anyone know how long the OOTS website has been down, or why?

Denial of Service Attack, according to a Kickstarter update from Burlew. No idea why anyone would DOS it, though…
