Hole in the Middle, just one page, but exciting nontheless.

Anyone else find the demon roach pop culture reference in the last panel hilarious?

Also, I suspect are intrepid heroes are about to jump into the Snarl in a very desperate escape attempt.

I was just trying to figure out the roach panel. Mind clueing me in? I’m no pop culture expert.

One of the roaches is wearing a fedora and a whip, resembling Indiana Jones. In the unpopular movie Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jones finds himself way too close to an American atomic bomb test in the Nevada desert. He rides out the bomb blast in a lead-lined refrigerator.

Roy really should invest in a death ward amulet or whatever the latest D&D thing is to defend against finger-of-death may be…

Ah, got it! That’s perfect, but for some reason I just didn’t get it. I saw the fedora as a fez and the fridge as a lunchbox, which led to odd speculations concerning shriners.

Geez, is Roy dead again?

No, but he took a LOT of damage. Red Cloak can cast Disintegrate:

Any creature struck by the ray takes 2d6 points of damage per caster level (to a maximum of 40d6). Any creature reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by this spell is entirely disintegrated, leaving behind only a trace of fine dust. A disintegrated creature’s equipment is unaffected.

Oh, disintegrate, phew :)

I dunno. Looks to me like the bones in his arms and legs are turned to dust.

Friend of a friend. Yup, he saved vs. disintegration.

Re: Is Roy disintegrated, I never know with Burlew when he is going to yank the rug out from underneath me. Teams Evil seem to be on a collision course. We also seem to be getting new strips at a refreshingly common pace. This is an update schedule I can get behind.

Unlike Xykon, who didn’t even have a behind until he stuck it back on in the current strip!

Badump-ssshiissshhh. Thank you, I’ll be here all week, try the veal.

Touché. :)

It’s probably been a decade since I’ve even looked at a D&D book. From the abilities that it has used is there any fan group-opinion on what the thing in the darkness is? It doesn’t actually seem to be at all evil. Is it some kind of amnesiac angel or something that they have fooled into thinking he’s a demon?

The compiled list of everything known and speculated about regarding the MitD, courtesy of the GitP forum collective. Enjoy.

The only thing I would note is that alignment is not concrete, and aligment is not a function of race. Orcs might be whichever evil in bulk, but there are non-evil orcs, etc. It’s possible the MitD started evil but is not any longer, or was a non-traditional alignment member of it’s species from the get go. Before the 901 it was clear that O-Chul had been a catalyst for change in the creature, playing on certain inherent qualities/beliefs/etc.

Awesome comic. The reasoning between Redcloak and the Monster which hero they should pursue cracks me up.

Also: Did Roy lose his green belt of strength? Someone earlier said that equipment is unaffected by disintegrate, hmm.

Rich is teasing us with Belkar again.

Ack. 5 pages TitD just in the past couple days?

And yet another new one is up! I think Rich’s hand must be doing better. No major plot advancements in this one, but interesting nonetheless.
